FINALLY got a cloudy day. Went to the falls at Duke Island Park and got what I think is my PB Walleye. Haven't caught many walleye in my life time and this was a nice solid fish. Also connected with a football Brook Trout. Dropped one other fish. All fish released to fight again. Fished the fast water below the falls and didn't get anything there.

Nice Andy! Is the bite always best there on cloudy days? I've been meaning to go to Duke Island headgates for a while. A friend of mine has been getting Walleye there too. Were the fish biting a little further down out of the fast water? I've heard of people getting Walleye there on shiners right in the fast water throughout the winter..

Great report!
There's something wrong with that trout. It looks like he's a regular customer of McDonalds.
It pains me to have to drive over the raritan on the River Road bridge by Nevius Street every morning on my way to work and know all that good fishing is there while I'm trapped in the office. :(

I could see people catching walleye there through the winter, why not. I switched to jigs and never looked back, probably one of the best and most over looked lures on the market today. Jigs put you right where the fish are, on the bottom. Once you get the hang of it and start to experiment with different types of jig heads and colors you can't go wrong. I stiff tip rod is the key, and that is hard to find in a 5'6" UL rod, but I found one.
Glider head, football head, round head, different weights and colors, I love 'em.

what kind of rod you using, Andy? I love using small jigs, too and like you have hard a hard time finding a stiff tipped UL....best one I have currently is a St croix that my closed a car door on, breaking off the top 8 inches or so, making the new tip a bit stiffer...

The St Croix Triumph rods are pretty money for ultra light jigging.

Plain in the sense no bait on them, found a great company that makes 'em cheap, PM if ya wanna know.
Found a Conolon Premier for 40 bux, 5'6", good luck finding them, maybe E bay.

Nice fish!! Ive been in a few debates that I believe trout can make it trew the summer in the Raritan for the most part..They will seek out and find cooler water.. That's my backyard.. there great fish better ethics catch and release baby!!! That spot gets hit hard for weeks at a time by the Mexican Maniac's who keep EVERY fish they catch like a stringer of 2-4 lb smalies prob 10 fish between em jus horrible.. Im glad u got something out the river u put so much into!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
