Me and the kid hit Round valley this AM, 7-10am...in search of some 'bows, but had no luck with them..fished the wall with shiners and powerbait and other than 1 run off on the powerbait, and 2 dink bass on shiners, no luck at all....we gave up on the trout and hit the swimming side, and had a couple pickeral...one was the biggest one I have seen in NJ, but he broke off at the bank....one other one made the day worth it, was Bubba's first slime dart :) Just hoping one of these days I can get him into some decent trout action, the kid is dying to land one on his own..

He looks like he plenty happy with the slime dart, but I'm sure some trout are just around the corner. Plenty in the streams. Good job Dad.

Hey I saw you and your kid there this morning. I was with my gf and a dog lol. We had no luck with the trout either and tried for picks before leaving, but only for 15 min. Last Tuesday I went to the swimming side after getting some trout and I too caught a huge pickerel. Not sure how big since it broke off in my hand and fell back into the water, but it seemed pretty big. There's def some big darts in there.
Nice job tho, hope your son gets em soon!

It's always great to see a kid having fun fishing. That's a big pickerel.
Pickerel are notorious line-cutters. They have a set of teeth like a pair of scissors. If you look at them closely, you'll see they form in rows like shark teeth.

I like to see stuff like this because it reminds me of my childhood when I first started fishing 43 years ago.....You know the old saying...Take a Kid Fishin and he's hooked for life........Great job, your son looks happy as can be......Nice slime for his first fish!!!
