i know the tides are crazy in the ppc, this weekends the full moon is it even worth giving it a try? I was thinking of tAking the old ball & chain but if its gonna be ripping we will go pumpkin picking..............

Hit the canal a couple times two weeks in a row, so one of those times had to be near a peak moon, right around slack tide and can say they definitely bit better.when it was rippin than when it was slow, so id say go kill some crabs and play with the toy togs.

bigger fish bite when the tide is running

moon tides in there though are tough

as fishy said if you can fish around the slack you're better off especially when the moon tide is ripping

FYI - on my way home yesterday, I saw the end of the incoming in the river, and it was already steaming pretty good.

My .02 cents. The tides there are around 2 hours later than the Manasquan Inlet. I have found that the tog bite is best an hour before and an hour after the slack.

Often you can have good action just dropping the bait straight down, tight to the bulkhead. And you don't loose as much hardware. Still with 6 to 8 oz of lead tossed out into the current works too.

Agree with fishing the canal 1-2 hours before/after the slack. Know someone who has been fishing there past few weekends. Early in the morning he's been doing better dropping against the wall until the sun gets over the treetops then he casts out some.

In my experience I think the canal is 3 hours behind the inlet and the best time to blackfish would be 1 hour before through 1 hour after. I cant say whether against the wall or casting out would be better as I usually try both. Short to keeper ratio is about 10:1 and lost rigs to keeper ratio is about the same. I have yet to see any bass come out of there although I've heard stories  , and I have seen bait putting on a show (herring?) and THICK sand eels. Ive tried everything from bait to storm shads to jigs/plugs. Fished before sunrise, and late night at every spot along the canal I know of and have only managed to catch some decent sized blues. I've gotten out once since the storm and the water was pretty filthy, fished 4 hours without even a touch. I'm hoping that with colder temps the bass fishing turns on in that area. Also if anyone wants to fish the canal on a week night or in the morning on a weekend pm me I usually get down there a couple times a week

Joe,
Try little pieces of Philly Pretzel nuggets with spicy mustard during and around slack. They think the mustard is the orange stuff in some crabs. When tide is running strip the outer shell off the pretzel and make sure there is no salt on them. For the bigger tog fish whole Pretzel on Snafu rig and wait out the big bite. That should be the ticket. ;)

NASA is shut down. How will we get data for the canal on the moon?
