If you could go anywhere in the world on a Freshwater Fishing Vacation, where would it be? I enjoy looking around for that trip of a lifetime and it is always interesting to hear about new places. My wife likes to fish and I bought her to Forks Washington for Wild Steelhead fresh from the Pacific a couple years ago. That was a fantastic trip, caught them up to 15 lbs..have also fished for Giant Sturgeon in the Columbia River in Oregon. I got one over 200 lbs which was fun. Some places I wold like to visit are andy myers lodge in canada for muskie, lake trout, walleye etc and the ultimate would be fishing Taimen in Mongolia or Russia. Anyone else have a bucket list place they would like to visit??

Other than the obvious Minnesota or Canadien Shield musky trip, I'd like to do the Columbia River sturgeon thing, fish the Trinity River in TX for alligator gar, fish for Wels catfish in Europe, fish for Amazon catfish in Brazil or fish for mahseer in India. Next on my bucket list is a tarpon though. I lost one fishing from shore in Aruba on vacation a few weeks ago and I cant stop thinking about it. Gonna take care of that in 2014.

Tarpon have to be the greatest gamefish on the planet. Accessible to all, can be caught on both live & dead bait along with a myriad of artificials, fight like demons...what else could one ask for? We had real good fishing for them @ the Bahia Honda bridge...all on bucktails. Only problem is they head right for the bridge and break you off. only 1 in 10 actually head to open water.
if you do the columbia river sturgeon fishing check out sturgeon frank. he is a great guide...knows his stuff. www.sturgeonfrank.com

You can not go wrong with Andy Meyers Lodge. I was there in May for my 3rd time. If you go make sure that you book some guide dates with Steve Herbeck and his son Danny. The spring is the walleye and bass time and the fall they stay open to hunt for the big Musky. They are beating them up right now. They are also a hard drinking good timing bunch of guys. You will fit right in.

Good question for this site.
The Amazon, preferably in Brazil. I'd not be after a particular species of fish, but as many species as possible, with Arapaima topping the list of most wanted. I'd also have to do some fish collecting if possible (for aquarium biotope breeding).

A South America Peacock Bass trip would have be up near the top for me....those things are beasts...plus top water explosive stikes...SWEET! But next on the list is Salmon in Alaska in 2014 with the family.
And I have taken note of all of the places mentioned here...thanks for the info. Great post idea.

Boy all these trips so far seem great..Did the Eagle Lake thing already, Didnot go to Myer's Lodge> heard tell he's the best..But now I think I'd choose a trip to Wollaston Lake montster pike and Wallyeye, cost would be about 4800 for about 5 days, or 8 days for about 8500..Travel would be extra..Or maybe Artic lodge on Reindeer Lake...Giant Lakers and pike and walleyes..Good God so much water and so little time..
