Heres the scoop..........I fished LH today w Dale (getanet) and also my buddy Jackstraw (Anthony) took his new Lund and launched w us. TOUGH conditions to say the least at LH right now.
1. Water is very shallow, my big boat is a crestliner 1850 sportfish DeepV and I got it in but was sketchy. The last ramp is deepest but is closed due to debris dumped in the bottom, first ramp is open but is only good for shallow draft boats, like johnboats and Vbottom johns/tillers etc. If you have a bigger boat than mine u may have issues. Anthony brought chest waders w him and we launched both boats and got out trimmed up high and using ONLY our electrics to get to deeper water then setup to go. Dale and I will have chest waders and will help launch anybody that needs it w deeper boats, if you are bigger than 18' or sit high on ur trailer it will be tough but we did it pretty easily just gotta be very careful. It wasnt hard to get in in daylight, but tough in the dark early morning, waders are the ticket to safety. I dont want ANYONE messing up a lower unit or their boat and being pissed, if you are at all worried dont put it in the water. The lake is 13-14" lower than it is supposed to be right now, we have had no rain it sucks. Last weekend for me on big lake I think
2. Fishing sucked today, the fish are scattered and not schooled up. Last weekend was 70-71 and this weekend its 62-63 they should be on fire, but they are not. We did catch fish and Jackstraw did too, but its not where its supposed to be, very small bait balls scattered and fish here and there, both high and low. Gonna be tougher fishing than I thought but people WILL catch fish.......I got my PB walleye today around 7lbs. I do have spots marked on a map where they usually hang and a few guys caught some fish today, tomorrow may be on fire, who knows its fishing lol. Less than 10 boats out there total on lake, if it wasnt howling wind woulda been a much better day
3. As far as rigs they all worked today, livelining was rly good, downlining worked, so did 3 way on the bottom, and the Binsky got all my fish in the boat, Im gonna jig hard and hang a herring on one side, thats my plan.
We spoke of canceling this morning and spoke with Eddie and decidded to just put the info out there of current conditions and guys make their own minds up. Hoping tomorrows fishing is better w less wind, should be good day, will be my last on LH, I wont be able to get in next week.
Remember anybody coming out use the middle ramp for deeper/bigger boats and ask for help, small/shallow boats first ramp is fine, just dont power around if u dont need to, electric motors are better til deep water or trim up high............
