View Full Version : Pike action on the river

I hit the river this morning for about 90 minutes before work and the bite was just insane. I landed double digits on pike and had a few nice pickerel in the same stretch. Only one pike was under the 30" mark with all the rest being quality fish in the low to mid 30". I don't even want to talk about the couple that I missed having them next to the kayak, but the bigger ones just don't like getting handled from the kayak to get a good picture.

Thanks !! I have been working 6 days a week from 8 am until 11pm for the past 15 weeks and I have been going to Montauk on my one day off. I work at a Broadway theater and we have been loading in a show and doing previews, but the good news is the show opens tomorrow and I will be back to just working the show and having most mornings off to hit Montauk, the river and the woods for some deer action. The better news is the name of the show is "BIG FISH".

So I hope to giving a few more reports....good or bad !

All fish were caught with a 1/2 oz. spinner bait with a single willow blade in a mix of chartruse and white.

Sweet looking fish. Making me want to try for them! Anyone ever try for them early spring at spruce with spinner baits?
