Any advise about where I can take my 11 yr old nephew freshwater fishing on Sat. It would be his first time fishing so I wanted to find somewhere I could go where we could catch a few fish. I'm more of a saltwater guy so I really need some help. He lives in Rockaway, NJ. We 'd be fishing from shore. No boat . Thanks in advance!!

rockaway borough or township? in the borough, the rockaway river is right there. you can fish it above the dam at jackson ave. bass, sunfish, etc. there are a lot of other parks along the river that offer shore access.
if rockaway township, even better... any of the ponds going up green pond road would be a good start. going north there is lake ames, the camp hudsonia pond (across from the school), and egbert's lake. over by picatinny arsenal/the mall is mt. hope pond which also has many shore fishing access points.
worm and a bobber at any of the above spots will have a good possibility of sunfish action for your nephew. they all hold larger bass, pickerel, etc as well if you toss some spinners, a rapala or something similar. good luck, have fun and thanks for taking a kid fishing!

White Meadow Lake is good too. Usually always catch something there.

Horseshoe lake in Succasunna has plenty of bass a panfish right off the shorelines, worms and bobbers catch lots of fish. If you cross to the island directly to ur right after teh little crossing bridge is a great spot, the lake has a little creek that runs under that walking bridge lots of fish hand out there. that whole little island has lots of spots that are clear of trees and theres no weeds in that lake really
