Anything biting there besides the bugs? Wanted to hit the outside on Thursday but looks like with wind is gonna be an issue. Is it worth the 50 mile ride or what?

No decent Fluke reports in a while but people seem to be doing well with Croakers back in the rivers and also in the bay....

Went today, got on the water at 545 am fished till 915am an the wind blew like hell, but we still caught 31 big croakers 2blues and alot of weaks between 13 and 15 in. also acouple small fluke. I haven't caught a keeper fluke in the river in the last month. lots of action if you don't care what you catch.

How do you fish there? Sorry I am new to this. Are you on the bottom? Using gulp or spearing?

Was getting lots of croakers in my MD crab trap.

I'd take weaks over fluke any day. Albeit only one :(

Last 2 weekends we caught plenty of spot and croakers dead sticking while crabbing. We were using flounder hooks with a piece of sandworm. They will also hit squid, but sandworm worked much better. I was anchored so we were using 1/2 - 1 oz weights

Hit the river yesterday. Very slow in AM so worked down to mouth of Shrewsbury River and South end of bay area. Lots of Croakers, some Spots and a couple keeper Weakfish, 14 and 15 inch in the area of the #2 can.. Oceanic area a bit better in the PM, larger Croakers more upriver from the bridge. All fish on small Squid strips. Fluke were no where to be found. :(

Thanks for the post. Hope to rent a boat in Highlands Monday. Can you give me an idea where to fish in Navesink. Do usually anchor for croakers and weaks.
thanks

I must have been doing something wrong. I went the night before last and was out there for about 3 hours. The only thing I caught was a crab trap. Was using small bucktail and squid strips and nothing. Oh well Ill try again soon

Like I said the river was very slow to nothing in the AM.

Afternoon was better but nothing to write home about.

If you are renting out of the Highlands I would suggest heading for the Shrewsbury River mouth and fish the drop off areas on the East side of the mouth. Tons of fish readings in those areas for 9 ft to 20 ft. Croakers, Weaks , Spots and Snapper Blues.
Good Luck
