Looking to co- sponsor and hold a fishing event ("Tournament of champions") on a party boat (Next year). Event would be a one day fluke fishing competition. 80 people max. Cost of fare for trip plus a $25 entry fee that would go to the prize money for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place fish. Putting it out now to get an idea of how much interest there would be in getting in. I'd also be looking for other sponsors for prize donations, food, etc....

Are you planning on 80 people on one party boat?? Not possible to do it comfortably in my mind. It would be way too crammed on even the largest party boats.

Gerry, 80 would be a max # but really just trying to figure out way ahead of time what it would take to get anglers interested in doing this, ie..pay more for trip, and have less people...up the entry fee, only top fish wins, etc, etc. Appreciate all feedback to help carve this out...

Sounds like a fun trip Mike but I agree with Gerry, remember the last RFA trip you were tangled up every time I looked you way! Less people & higher price & I'm in.

To make it fair you would have to number the spots on the boat and draw numbers out of a hat to eliminate people camping over night to get the bow or stern where there is a definite advantage being able to cast and let the baits swing. Just my two cents.

Ill put this one out there then... Make it a multi port competition... Not everyone has the oppurtunity to just get to a boat, it may be that one which is the closest... I'd say do one in sandy hook, one in belmar and one in point. So on and so fourth, ya I'd do the "mega pool" on that day...

PUOSU Fluke trip 1 Fish winner takes all 50 peeps max with a 25 dollar pool and I would say ocean explorer would be the boat of choice..boarding spots should be by order you sign up the way LAB would want it..

Following your lead of "tournament of champs" why not run a series of qualifier trips in the different ports where the top 5-10 or so people qualify for the puosu jersey coast shootout. this would allow each port to reap the benefit of the competition & have local advertising & sponsors, you could also run the qualifiers on rotating boats in the port to give everyone an equal chance. Get a little new coverage & this could turn into something.;)

Short Cast- I like the concept, this is where I would be looking for co-sponsors for coordination /timing of events.

Before this goes further, just putting it out that this stemmed form a discussion during fishing among a few guys as nothing more than a competition with a monetary incentive for those who would want to enter. It would also allow for some sponsorship opportunities for businesses to promote themselves along with the event. This is not meant to compete with any other events held in the past...LAB,,rest in peace, created his own forum for an event and no one could compare to that, nor would I try. If this is a venue that others would want to use to honor Mike's legacy, I would not be opposed.
