Just throwin it out there. Since the Passaic seems to be a popular destination for "license buying" anglers, lol, I wonder what the possibility of expanding the stocking program for the river would be? I'm thinkin, eyes and tigers!! Maybe some of those "excessive" eyes goin into the SHED could be re-allocated into the Passaic?

Also, if there's still tigers goin around, why not drop a handfull into the river. Could only improve the fishery, right. And def enough room to spread em out and not have em concentrate in one area. Not tryin to start a petition, but who wouldn't approve?

Id be all for the muskie but honestly the eyes would kind of be a waste. Not saying it wouldn't be fun but in terms of eating them I definitely wouldn't advise that out of the passaic unfortunately. Definitely good food for thought though I would sign a petition for muskie in the passaic.

Good point. Not much chance of them growing large for sport. They could be edible depending on where they're stocked and how long they holdover, but, I prob wouldn't eat one.

Ok, so, two handfuls of tigers, lol..............:D

I do not fish the passaic, tho I would be much more likely to if I knew there were even a handful of musky in there. It would be a good way to draw fishermen to a new spot. I would love to see this happen personally.

Why bother with tigers when you have big pike???. The tigers don't breed, the pike do, the pike are MUCH more ready biters, the pike fight exactly like a musky does, I know that for a fact as I have caught both, and the pike are certainly better eating IF you care to eat them.. Pike are white and sweet.. Tigers are much more grainy, and just aren't that good.. I only tried one years ago, and it was lousy.. had pike only a few times, as I almost always release them, and it was very good.. boney though... Why put muskies in to compete??. The pike resource you have in the Passaic is phenomenal.. I live in NY state, and we catch pike, but have very few waters that match the river fishery you have in the Passaic.. Lots in the St Lawrence, but typically you get 50 "hammer handles" to every big one... I say let the pike reign, and keep the tigers out.. Its redundant really... bob

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't hybrids have a faster growth rate than pure strain fish? So you have a better chance of tigers reaching or surpassing the 40" mark. Catch a couple 30" class pike a day with the possibility of a monster tiger. Even if they do compete with, or even feed on some of the smaller pike, its all good. There will be another couple thousand stocked next year. And I'm not saying flood the river with them, but a few stocked sporadically here and there would def make things more interesting in my opinion............

write to Fish and Game http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/contactform.htm

Make a proposal and go before the F&G Council like FE and I did

THEN........ we will see you in December at the hatchery meeting.

Sounds like a plan Andy. I'll take some time to send them an email and see what sort of response I get. I'll report back if I hear anything. Besides, what's the worst that could happen, it gets shot down and the river continues to be an exciting fishery anyway..........
