So yesterday I started that thread whining about how I can't catch a damn thing. That's pretty much true but today I decided to stop at my usual spots on the way home and got skunked again. I decided to head out to a different lake later on and was fishing for over an hour and a half with no luck. Started raining as soon as I got there, stopped, started again. Was throwing a spinner bait and getting nothing. Switched to a floating rapala (couldn't tell you what exactly, it's been in my tackle box forever) and got nothing either.

I was pretty frustrated so I decided to switch to a chartreuse pumpkin worm that I just bought today. Rigged it up Texas style with a fairly light sinker and decided to head back over to the swimming area where it's less weedy and give it one more shot before heading out. Two or three casts later and I nailed this guy. He jumped twice and the action was awesome. He actually went under the ropes for the kids swimming area and then jumped out of the water and back over...so I had to hand pull him in along the swim ropes in order to get him.

It was an absolute blast, as if you couldn't tell from the smile on my face.

Took me, oh, I don't know, two months, but I finally got one. And he was worth it.

Nice looking fish. I can not wait for the fall for some slobs that get hungry before the winter sets in. Keep catching them!

Thanks guys. That's why I've been trying for months. That thrill of catching them, especially when they're jumping and active like that, ain't nothing like it. Still smiling.

When the action is slow this is a hard thing to remember but I always try and remind myself that if I caught a ton of huge fish every time I went out it wouldn't be that interesting. It's fishing not catching, as they say.....

Nice bass

Yeah that's a good point. All the skunk jobs certainly made that one even more memorable.

Thanks guys. Can't wait to get back out there again.

good job Rob, the smile in the pic says it all bro!! and dont feel bad man, I admit that on occasion I have been skunked, thats why u need to build a confidence lure (like a jig for example) and kno that u can catch a fish on it no matter what and do so. Theres always a few spots that will always hold fish, regardless of conditions, and u couple that w a bait u know how to work well and is variable in how u can fish it and u will always beat the skunk, even if its a little perch or bass or pickeral or whatever. Ive had days of nothing and went and hit a little spot like that then u feel like the tide has turned and u go to the next spot and catch em up, its all confidence and attitude, it actually changes the way u fish and throw/work ur lures
