I'm going on a trip this weekend river rafting in Barryville NY and am planning on doing some fishing. From what I've read the upper delaware is supposed to have some of the best wild trout fishing on the east coast. Does anyone have any info on what other fish inhabit the upper delaware and if this claim about trout is true?

Not that far down. SMB are more likely but anything can happen on the Big "D".
The Trout are further north like Callicoon and up from there.

Wilson got it correct...The wild trout area are Callicoon and above @ 20 minutes on the NY/PA border....alot of that is private stretches of the river or owner by a Hunt and Fish club...A friend of mine who passed away a few yrs. ago and I used to go up there for wild trout and the fish were a totally different breed than the stockies here.....Those browns were all yellow bellies and red, blue and purple spots and fought like hell....even a 15" trout fought like a 4 pound smallmouth in that part of the river....Have a great time....bring a pop-r for the smallies in the Delaware.....also a Mepps #2 gold--- you'll kill em also w/ that ....have a great trip.....we usually kayak w/ Kittatinny up that part from Barryville to Matamoras and it's a great trip(17 miles)..keep an eye out for Eagles.....they are all over up there and a sight to see if you've never seen one....They are GIANT birds!!...the river is awesome scenery up that part.....Have fun!!!

Was up in Hancock, NY last weekend doing a Rafting trip down to Buckingham Access on the PA side from Hancock Bridge on Rte 191(Hancock Hwy). Plenty of fish viewed including some nice smallies. Dead Shad and Eagles prevalent also. Good luck on your trip.

I did the Barryville to Pond Eddie float a couple weeks ago. I caught a bunch of smallies and sunnies. Just throw spinners in the pools and along any ledges and you'll find fish. I caught a few on rattle traps and Rapalas in the deeper pools also.
