Inshore seabass: conventional or spinning?

What do you prefer, conventional or spinning gear?
Just wondering what everyone prefers.

Fairly light conventional tackle, 12-20lb rod, 30lb braid, 25lb top shot. In my opinion, spinning sucks for bottomfishing.

Agreed, with the exception of bucktailing fluke when you have very little drift.

Conventional....... maybe even an acid wrap if your going to use it for other types of fishing.

Spinning is the most natural feel you will get with a rod. The line is centered below the rod blank, eliminating twist and saving stress in your wrists and arms. An acid wrap offers you the best of both worlds. Rod stays natural, plus benefits of conventional reel. I know many guys who use it for bottom fishing.

With the potential for hooking up a double of 3-4 lb. fish I prefer my standard, Avet SX on a Lami Inshore classic rod, with 20# braid. I did use my SX-J but I found it to be just a little to small for the job. I agree with the others about using spinning gear for bottom fishing.

spinning rod with 15 feet of line less then the depth you are fishing with a 2ounce pyamid sinker and metal spreader rig oh wait thats the ling set up. inshore sea bass 4/0 reel minimum 50lb test & an old metal or bamboo heavy rod from 1952

Use anything that will upset the most people . The more tangles the better . In Real Life I use a Jigmaster JR filled with 30 lb. mono on a Bogan 40 lb class rod . I also have a 3/0 Senator filled with 60 lb braid . I have put a 30 ft. topshot of 30 lb. mono so it is more tangle/hang up friendly .

Seabass don't care what you reel them up with. It's more important to have multible rods ready to go. If you bust off you don't want to be jerking around re-rigging when the bite is on.

7"mh rod capable of holding 12ozs as ya never know when that current will rip. I use a shimano torium 14 wi 40lb braid. what matters most is you are comforable with the outfit. only time i'd go spinnig is if tossing light weight jigs & bucktails from an achored boat works geat to catch big cardboard while anchored
