After notifying my boss that I was taking a much-deserved sick day, I headed up to the North Branch in Bedminster. I showed up streamside at about 6:30, and there were already a dozen people there. I started at the AT&T bridges and worked upstream to the big in-flow pipe, picking off about a dozen trout, plus one little smallmouth. Used a mix of everything, but the hot lure was a 2" Fin-S Fish worked fast just below the surface. Fish were swirling on it almost every cast! Unfortunately it was difficult to hook up with the lure, so I missed the vast majority of hits. All trout were browns, except for one chunky rainbow. Lots of fish in the water, and with the trout bunched up and the water being so clear it was like fishing in the hatchery!
After I had my fill of the browns, I made a quick stop over at Peapack Brook around noon and tagged two brookies in short order on a white Mr. Twister. Before I could make it any further though, I just ran out of steam and wanted to head home. I must be getting weak in my old age. After lunch at a diner I headed back.
All trout released, except for one unlucky brown that took the Fin-S a little too deep. He will be joining me for breakfast this weekend. :D
I had my GoPro with me, so expect a video in the next few days.
