Went to monksville on my boat for the first time ever using a boat. Launching was difficult for me but hopefully after few times launching ill get the hang of it. Fished from 5 to 8 caught one bass around 7:45 but still had a great time on the water. Can anyone tell me if your allowed to fish at night?

Thank you I want to know why when I asked the police officer he said it closes at night and a ranger will drive on the parking lot but they don't close the gate so I was confused.

Myself and many others have fished at Monksville well past midnight into the early mornings and I have never had a problem nor have anyone else ever reported any problems as well....
the only thing I can think of is maybe a new law had passed recently that no one is aware of or the officer you spoke to is just talking out of his ass... If the launches were closed at night then the ranger would lock the gates. No locked gates and no signs posted indicates fish until your heart is content...

Sucks launching there since they took out the dock.I don't get why they did that.no way to avoid getting pretty wet.

monksville freezes over. they pull the docks so they don't get damaged by the ice. i am sure they will be back soon.
the north launch (not the crew boat launch) is usually fine for jumping into the boat from the rocks to the left of the ramp without getting in the water.

Last time I tried to launch was last June, no dock. I don't bother anymore. I dont find Skunksville to be anything special.

Ding Ding Ding!!!
I have spent more time at Monksville under moonlight than sunlight. Many overnight trips too. Never any issues.

That's what I thought but when I got back the the ramp a cop maybe the same guy was sitting on the parking lot and when I hooked up the boat he drove away. And do I need anything in the window cause I have heard you copy your fishing lisence and put in there

not at monksville. a boat ramp maintenance permit, or a copy of a fishing or hunting license, must be displayed at only a few places in the state. they are:
1. Round Valley Reservoir, Angler Access
2. Kingwood Access, Delaware River
3. Assunpink WMA, Assunpink Lake
4. Assunpink WMA, Stone Tavern Lake
5. Assunpink WMA, Rising Sun Lake
6. Dennis Creek WMA, Dennis Creek
7. Tuckahoe WMA, Tuckahoe River
8. Mad Horse Creek WMA, Mad Horse Creek
9. Union Lake WMA, Union Lake
10. Menantico Ponds WMA, Menantico Ponds
11. Prospertown Lake WMA, Prospertown Lake

Last time i went or tried to night fish there, we saw cops at the launch and they told us no night fishing, yet there was about 10 boats out there already.

??? Really??? Ringwood PD? West Milford?
From the state's website: "Known for its trophy size muskellunge, walleye, bass and trout, Monksville Reservoir is heavily used by anglers, sporting clubs and the US Sailing Association. Easily accessible from either the north or the south boat ramp, the area is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

For me it was ringwood police that told me they close at night. I have just called a phone I found and listen to a recorded message which said that monksville fishing and boating is opened 24 hrs 7 days a week. So next time a cop tells me I have to leave ill make sure I call for him.

Right or wrong the cops will win every time.
