90% of the shad fishing I see in the Easton area is boats parked in the channels, anchored up with trolling spoons. But yet, I know shad darts are effective when casted.

Anyone care to give a 101 on shore fishing for shad?

This is my first year with a boat. The last 3 years I have got into shad fishing and it's been from shore. Chest waders as far out as I can get if needed, throw a 1/2-3/4oz egg sinker above a swivel and a 2-1/2' leader then a spoon. Never used darts only spoons. Cast upstream aim as if your throwing at "1 o clock", now, there were most times where I would let it sink count to like 5 slow, then reel in as fast as I could reel. Sometime u reel slow. Sometimes give It big jigging motion as u reel and they may hit as it falls. Then i have casted and as soon as it hit water I'd reel like it was a popper almost and caught them. Just gotta try different techniques. I fish the pburg side just above the free bridge few miles up. But u can get into them anywhere.

I thought it was good since last year when I was watching guys bail shad anchored up in the fast water and I was bouncing shad darts off the side of the guys boat and couldn't get a hit.

If your not bouncing off the bottom your not catchin. You gotta chuck that dart or flutter spoon a lil upstream and reel it back slowly. If your not near or a foot or 2 off bottom your just casting for ZERO. Look for paths that lead upriver, you have to be able to read the water.
