Got the opportunity to get out with my brother for the first time this year...We were throwing everything in our boxes all morning with no success..It got a little warmer by the river in the afternoon and the pike started to hit..Landed 3 in total on husky jerks..Nothing too big but feels nice to be catching fish again!!

Hey I don't really want to be the first one to point it out but just be careful the way you handle pike especially if you post it on here. There are some ways to handle them that will keep you out of harms way and protect the heath of the fish as well. You can't go wrong with the lip grippers either. Asides from that nice job gettin out their and tacklin some pike. Ill be out there tomorrow rippin some lips hopefully.

Thanks guys..skunk I added you to that page that has pictures of some of the pike me and my buddies have caught..I haven't caught any "big mommas" like the ones you catch but I'm gonna keep trying! Just got an intEx inflatable raft with trolling motor so I should be able to start hitting some prime spots without having to hike! Only thing left to get is a fish finder.

Skunk, thats the same area I fish. I got a couple big ones out of there. Biggest was 40 inches 6 years ago. Thats when absolutely nobody was fishing for Pike in that stretch. Last year I got the 37.5 just upstream from where this spot is. Average size seems to be 20-30 inches down low with some big ones mixed in, just hard to come by.

That's awesome that the fishery is that established up there. I remember when I landed my 38.5, did a quick Google search to see if I could find the estimated age and it was approx. an 18 year old fish. Shows you guys have been getting love from the state for a long time :p .

Live and learn. If your releasing the pike, you may want to steer clear of those 6/9 hook lures. They tear up the fish (and you). You can always replace the trebles with single hooks for quicker/safer releases. You'll lose more fish but who cares as long as they survive to be caught another day.

I believe there is a few in the Passaic, Last year Ive personally seen 2 Pike in the high 40 range... Both were followers up to the bank and then turned away..
