Got out for a couple casts after work today and I'm glad I did. Walked a short muddy section of river and found 2 hungry beasts.

As I'm about to land the the first one, I hear a guy behind me say "watcha got there"? Scared the crap out of me and I almost dropped the rod. Thought I was about to get booted or ticketed. End up lifting up a nice size pike and while he's taking a pic for me hes tellin me how he works right there and was there when they stocked it a long time ago. I thanked him and moved on.

Second one hit on the same spinner that produced for me last time. Another nice one that I decided to weigh for the hell of it. Both fish were thick and seemed to fight noticeably harder than last week.

Def glad to be able to fish after work again!!!!

Good fish! Did they hit a traditional spinnerbait or an inline spinner (Mepps)? I've been killing them on shallow running minnow plugs. The few times I've tried the spinnerbait so far this year it hasn't even gotten a sniff lol.

I commend you on the non-revealing pictures. Even I can't recognize the background :p .

Rangers hat = good fortune! Nice fish... The few spots on the passaic I've gone to recently have been ripping--no slow fishable pools for the most part. Pinebrook was whipping this past Saturday. Maybe my locations need to be diversified...

Thank guys. Been exploring a bit outside of the 2 bridges area. Think the slightly warming weather may have more to do with it than location.

Skunk, its an inline style spinner. Can't say exactly which cause then it wouldn't be my "secret weapon" anymore, lol. Last time out my buddy had a follow on a spinnerbait but no strike. It's def close to open season though!!!

Oh yeah, one more thing.......... LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!

Ill also chime in with a LET'S GO RANGERS! I hit the two bridges area but the water is just a tad two swift. Honestly I find it easier to taget these fish especially this time of the year walking the bank. Find deep pools with very slow moving water and I'm willing to bet if you present the right lure you'll be in luck. The steady and a little faster than the typical winter retrieve has been working for me. I got a few this past weekend on a swim jig with chigger craw trailer. The thing is deadly for some reason lately but those pike take a toll on that type of presentation. After two pike they destroyed my skirted jig and obviously mangled the plastics. Tight lines though I'm sure ill see you out there this year at some point.

Its been a rough year for the Rangers so far. Lotta new faces and not a lot of team chemistry. Not to worried though, as long as they make it to the playoffs I'm sure they'll get it together.

Also, as far as my bait presentation is concerned, I'm def on the flouro over steel bandwagon. Couple nicks in the line but no bite offs. And I'm lovin gamakatsu octopus circle hooks. Def do what they're supposed to. Solid hook sets and no gut or gill damage.
