After reading the poll about how big the biggest fluke was I thought this might be an interesting poll. Hope it will help me beat my PB.

Kind of ashamed to admit it ..... we were trolling Stretch 25's off Sandy Hook Channel and ran to close to the False Hook ... needless to say the Streches were dragging bottom in 18 feet of water ... thats when we hooked up with my biggest Fluke ... just shy of 8 lbs. :o
Wish I was at least targeting fluke when I caught it:p

Shot him in the back with a spear at about 20 feet. It was buried under seaweed and shells and I could barely make out that there was the shape of a doormat right in front of my face. Ba-Blamo!

Had my biggest fluke ever last summer bouncing a 4 ounce spro with a teaser 18 inches above the bucktail. Caught him on the teaser hook that had a 6 inch Gulp grub in new penny color. Was 10 pounds even.

(this literally contradicts everything we do now - on my boat and how we fish - as fluke fishermen LOL)
Not for nothing, but the other 20 + fish I've taken over 7# have all come on bucktails and teasers :)

Bluefish hook with wire line and a bunker chunk.Fishing for bass on Flynns Knoll and the bite slowed down.My father rigged up a 4-0 reel with wire so the kids could catch some blues.I took the rod let it down 17' ft and thump.Up comes a 34'' 14lb fluke. It didn't stand a chance on that rod with 40lb. ande and a wire leader.lolSame thing on Shrewsbury Rocks no current and a 14 plus on a chunk!Pure luck lol:)

Current was too strong to hold with a 6oz bucktail ( biggest i had with me) so i went old school with 8 oz sinker spearing and squid 11.2#. The rest 9#,8.5#,8.4# all on bucktails.
Just for the record. I too have seen a fluke caught trolling a stretch 25 that was hitting bottom.

On the ocean side of the Manasquan Inlet north jetty with fluke belly on a platinum blonde fly as a teaser with a 2 oz white bucktail and hook strip pork rind and fluke belly instead of a sinker 12.5 lb. Also 11.2 lb on whole squid on Captain Paul's boat off IBSP. 9.9 lb on live snapper in Manasquan Inlet.

A long time ago(1950) I was 12 using a flounder rig with squid strips...a rig back then looked like a spreader bar with bank sinker in middle and a mono leadered hook attached to either end...don't know how much it weighed but it barely fit in the net and did bend it double...sucker was huge...:) :)

To my surprise I found myself in this months Salt Water Magazine representing NJ in their East Coast Fluke Article. Nick Honaschefsky happened to be on the trip this past Summer and got some good pics. The fluke weighed just under 8lbs and hit the bucktail tipped with a 4" gulp swim mullet and fluke belly strip. Had one year before on bucktail jumbo killie that weighed 8.3lbs. Oh yeah almost forgot both fish were caught aboard The Gambler with Capt. Bob at the helm. Thanks Bob see you soon.

Early May, Montauk NY. Fluke belly strip on a fish finder rig.
I sure wish the season was open in early May like the old days. There were some big fluke chasin the squid back in the day. A bunch of us would run our boats out there and fish for a long weekend. Yeah.... the good old days!

In Ambrose not far from swinburne island on a killie/squid combo, fish went just shy of 10 lbs. It was a rough day as we couldn't get away from the dogfish and skates, until i felt a good head shake i thought it was a big skate.
