Was helping out a buddy at his work near Belleville/Newark on Sunday. When we were done, we decided to get in a few casts at the river, which is no more than 4 blocks from his work. I tossed big stuff out into the current, not expecting much at low tide, while my buddy threw out a shiner into some slack current. No more than 5 minutes later, bobber went under and up came our first NEWARK Pike  !

For all the guys posting and PM'ing about where to catch these fish, this goes to show they are literally EVERYWHERE! This fish was chillin' with his homeboys in the 'hood, miles away from the closest Pike stocking. Go out and get em!

I gotta say you do up some nice pics. This should be in a magazine and have a name. Like urban pike or something, the background makes it. Thanks for the report.

Unreal!!! I'd watch out though! That Pike may be gang-related!

I've gotta ask, Did that Pike do a "Crip Walk"? Good thing your buddy's wearing blue, lol.

Interesting to see that PIKE are striving that far south in tidal water.

Kudos to you boys! I second Mikey topaz, -"AWESOME REPORT"

Wow, that's pretty cool. I wonder how many you'd catch if you put some crack on the hook. :D

Astounding.. I lived in Lyndhurst for 37 years.. That entire period,
from the 50's into the 80,s the only fish in that part of the river were killies, a few small eels, a sick bullhead or two,and some diseased carp, and even they had problems...
Now there are stripers, white perch, bass, sunnies, and even PIKE down there. I must say, the river looks as awful in that stretch as it did when I was a kid, but the water quality has gotten MUCH better if Pike can live and thrive in it... Well done.... bob

Seems like the pike don't care about the hoods they are hanging out in. It's the fisherman that might have to be careful...

The best part of that pic was the graffiti in the background. It looks like he's standing in some back alley. Nice fish

Well something has to eat the bodies....

I've commuted to work into Newark up Route 21 for 20 years. It's unbelievable that there are living fish in that stretch of the river at all!
