Anyone fished at the Overpeck? They just finished the "new" Overpeck Park - south of existing park where you can fish. I tried football jig with trailer and some grubs last week. Not even a bite. Anyone else fished here?

Anyone else fished here? Good Carp spot. Try dead sticking corn or dough and don't take your eyes off the rod!

No pike, no walleye, no pickerel, probably not any crappie. There's probably a few bass, but other than that I'd say it's mostly dirty river dwells like white perch, catfish and carp. I wouldn't be surpised if some stripers found there way up there though.

it probably goes without saying, but overpeck creek is pretty highly polluted (as is everything that is tidal upstream of newark bay). don't eat anything out of there.

Carp is the big catch there, but it isnt always easy. I haven't been there in years, but we used to make homemade dough that would work. I never had luck with corn, but I have heard it works. Never tried artificials there. Never heard of stripers north of the pseg dam. Its hit or miss, but if u find a good spot, you could have fun catching carp.

:D

Solid 2nd post lol. I've been hearing for a few weeks the Stripers are in the Hack. Time to get out there I guess. What were they hitting if you don't mind me asking?

I caught that guy on a soft plastic called a "Banjo Minnow" hehe something I orderd from a info-mercial. Stripers love that lime green color ! This was the first time useing the lure I was skeptical useing something I orders from tv but now I'm a believer I'm going to order another pack I lost all of them bouncing off the bottom lots of snags at that spot

I also cought one on a 4" Yamamoto and a led head but the banjo minnow was more effective , you really need a big hook for a solid hook set on the stripers.
They were tearing up all my Lil bass worm hooks at first I had no idea any stripers were in overpeck I thought I had hooked up with a record largemouth

I caught this monster on the in-comeing tide yesterday , easy 28" keeper size !

The one pic that had the turnpike in it is actually a dam. When overpeck gets low they open it up and spill water in from the side where the PSEG plant is. I didn't realize it was like this till I was on hendricks causeway and saw it happen. So thats probably how the stripers get on that side of 95.

But it was mentioned on here that there is some good fishing on the overpeck during the warmer months.

I live locally and used to fish the area in the 80's.....we caught a lot of different fish there stripers, largemouth, white perch, yellow perch, crappie, eels, bullhead and channel cats,sunnies....it was mostly white perch and cats though....biggest fish were caught on jumbo killies...used to get a fish on every cast up to 50 or 60 perch a day when it was good...then it changed and it was saltier and blue crabs were eating the bait...a lot of people were crabbing there,i would not eat anything out of there!!!!
