Hey fellow HARD WATER ANGLERS! Im looking to arrange a MEET-N GREET on January 5th and 6th. Who's in??? Being as Budd Lake and the north side of Monksville usually freeze first, Im choosing these bodies of water as our ICE PLAYGROUND. If you cant make it out on the 5th than come on out on the 6th. If no ICE or unsafe ICE than the MEET-N-GREET will be moved to January 12th and 13th. Hopefully we'll have plenty of happy ICE between now and then. I'm looking forward to meeting alot of you fellas and really hope that we get a good showing of people. I'm looking to make up for a ton of lost fall fishing time. Cant wait to see you out there. We can always jig out them Golden Shiners and stunted Crappie at Budd. Monksville is slime dart heaven and there's plenty of 3 inch Bluegills to jig up. LOL!!! Hopefully someone will get a 40+ fish.

Budd used to be a great place to jig up goldens but it's been dead the last few years. Jigging for panfish used to be great too but it's gone downhill and the fish you catch are usually small. Unfortunately I think the bucket brigade cleaned out a lot of fish. I won't be catching any pickerel or panfish at Monksville, I'll be swinging for the fences with all big baits on tipups.

I would try some jigging if we went to Budd. I only have a few goldens in my tank and it's at least worth a try. I usually catch a few pike every time I go there, but I can almost guarantee we won't get a 40. I've seen a few in the mid 30 inch range but have heard of a 40 coming out of there.

Don't pay attention to the temps wherever you live, check out the over night temps for late next week in Mt Arlington, Hewitt and West Milford. Temps trending downward. I think we will be good to go for the MEET-N-GREET January 5-6. Saturday the 5th we'll be fishing Monksville for those of you that can make it. I'll be parking at the canoe rental lot on the North side. Show up at whatever time you can get there. Ill probably be out there a little bit before sunrise. Lets all meet at the island on Lake Muscanetcong. Lots of parking. Plenty of fish. I always catch something there.
Don't forget to buy large butterworms from my minister friend Elliot at www.Elliotsbutterworms.com You can also call with the number provided on the web-site. I usually order 300-500. They keep in the refrigerator in the upper butter compartment for months in the shipping box. I use a plastic chewing tobacco can tucked in my pocket when I'm fishing. I don't bring all of them with me. Just enough for the day. They last a long time and I usually catch three fish before I add another one. They don't fall apart like mousies. They don't dry up and turn black like mealworms. They have an attractive smell that you can smell once the hook penetrates their bodies. I believe this is the reason they attract fish more than any other jig bait.

Took a ride up to monksville today to have my morning coffee. Sorry to say the only ice i saw was in the parking lot puddles. On a good note, it does not take much to freeze monksville.

Temps for NEW YEARS WEEK up around Monksville- temps wont be over freezing during the day and pretty DAMN cold at night. Were talking 10-15 degrees overnight by this sunday. HARDWATER ANGLERS, band together and come on out to Monksville January 5th. The ICE will be there and it will be safe. Oh YESSSSS, its going to be a PHENOMENAL year for us HARDWATER NUTZ!!!! Skunk, I am very amped up for this Ice season. Being as there was no good ice last year and this fall I didn't get out much due to family issues and work. I mean I have a friggin boat and a yak that Ive only taken out 1 time a piece in the last 2 months. My brain is fried and I cant wait to get on the water any way I possibly can. Jimmy, bring big baits if you want to catch the Musky. Chubbs, 10 inch Suckers, Golden Shiners or Jumbo Shiners from Franks tackle. Large Shiners will catch the Pickeral and whatever else might be in the shallows. Just take Greenwood Lake Turnpike north and make a right onto Beech rd. Parking lot is on the left, cant miss it. Coming over the little hill the right turn comes up pretty quick. See ya out there buddy.

I have a portable grill, gona grill up something. My buddy Bob has a propane stove he's bringing up. Tomorrow might be sketchy Mike, probably 4 inches of snow up there on top of whatever ice there is. No good way to know how thick it is. Definitely good to go by next week, 10 degrees or so overnight. YEA BUDDY!!!!

In regards to those big baits you mentioned, i presume they are not dead baits? How do you keep em' alive, in a giant cooler with an airator? Know a spot where could prob get some big suckers but not sure how to keep them for any lenght of time and transport them. i'd have get up to the spot a day or two before so any help would be great. Figured could put a couple on a stringer where i catch them but not sure the best idea is from there. Would like to try for muskie at Monksville next week.

Large rubbermaid container and 2 aerators. Keep the water cold and fill container with the water the fish came out of. Alot of Musky are caught threw the ice at Monksville on extra large shiners. You never know when your going to get 1 threw the ice. You just have to drill the lucky hole.

Yes sir, I just got back from a tour of northern NJ. Had my coffee at Monksville this morning. Ice, Ice everywhere!!! Its not safe yet but its a definite for next weekend. I walked down to the water and apparently somebody got wet feet. Whoever got the wet feet, hahahahahaha, be careful buddy. Everything is frozen over, just needs a few days to get solid. Do big dead baits work for the Musky as well? Im really not sure, never saw anyone catch a Ski on a dead bait. Anyhow, see you HARDWATER FREAKS out there.

Just wanted to remind all you hardwater guys, don't forget to purchase a 2013 license, it would a a shame to ruin a great day with some unnecessary problems. It would be the kind of thing I might do. I'm not an ice fisherman, but I'm going to try and drive up to meet some of you guys and see what I can learn. I'll bring a small trout rod and some worms, hope someone will drill me a hole.

My buddy checked budd over the weekend and its not ready. I checked a few early spots myself and nothing is walkable, lots of honeycomb from the snow and these above 32 temps dont help. Maybe if we get a warm day like tues and the stuff on top melts and then refreezes we will have good ice for the weekend. I hate to jinx it but I saw the weeks forecast and this super cold isnt gonna hit us hard, earlier they said 20s rest of the week now that changed. I may just take a road trip to monticello area there is good ice around there now..........lets hope

Budd lake wasn't ready Sunday when I stopped by but the overnight temps should help. Its only above freezing for a short time during the day this time of year. Monksville will be ready for Saturday. Hope to see you there. Anyone live close to Budd? Can somebody pop a hole to check it out?

Hit the MMONKS bright and early with Bob and Matt. Shrimpman Steve and his dog came out to see us off. Thanx for the support buddy, really appreciate it. Mikey Topaz, Duck or Bleed and his crew showed up a little later. My 2 non member friends, Bob and Yuri the Pollock came out around 9. There was about 40 guys on the Ice. Some introduced themselves and some just walked on by to there fishing grounds. Thanx for coming out Mikey and crew. Anyway it was a slow go in the morning. My buddy Frank got a small Pickeral on a tip-up late morning. That would be the only flag my crew got from 7 am til 2 pm. We made a power move toward the bridge with all our jigging gear. We found some 10-12 inch perch, Bobs being the smallest at 6 inches. Everybody got a couple big Perch and Yuri came up with a bonus Walleye at 15.5 inches. A short but a Walleye none the less. We fished hard and jigged hard from 645 to 445. Definitely put in alot of work today. Walking back to wrap it up I had 1 fish on the tip-up that I couldn't see from the bridge, just a Pickeral but another fish. Another day I wont be SKUNKED at SKUNKSVILLE. It wasn't a banner day but it was a day that ill remember forever, because of the people that came out. Thanx again for coming out fellas. There was a good amount of fish in the bridge area, but the ice is in bad shape. I wouldn't suggest anyone head out there alone. All in all a great day with great people. GOOD TIMES!!! Budd lake was a solid 4-5 inches of ice smoothest ice in a while for this place too bad nobody caught anything but a 22 inch pike..... hopefully tomorrow is better and that the fish will be hungry:D :D a lot of wind surfers (around 20-30) on the ice today though that was the worst part because one of them ran over and broke my tip up!!!!!!:mad: :mad:

Saxmatt had a flag around 8-830 am. It was a 25 inch PIKE caught on a gnarly dead fallfish. That was the biggest fish of the day. Matt was the first 1 there followed by that other dude who was using a 10 inch Jiffy power auger on 4-5 inches of ICE. MIKEY TOPAZ, JimmyLiveBait, DuckorBLEED SHOWED UP AROUND 9 Am. Amazing that somebody showed up when they said they would. Shortly after GETANET came up ready to go. Great guy, biker looking dude. He probably knows my mothers side of my family, PAGANS!! ANYWAY, he's a great guy and kept his word and showed his face. Flatcreek Phil and Tom, LURKER, also came to the show. River rats were in the house. Thanx Phil and Tom for coming out. Ill see u on the BIG D. Anyway I don't feel like writing much. Not much was caught at BUDD. But the guys that came threw are people id fish with all year round. Real honest peeps. Despite the lack of FLAG UP screams and hollers throughout the morning it was a great morning at DUD Lake. Another memorable day with Mikeytopaz, DUCKORBLEED and Fasteddie and saxmatt (Nice to meet you bud) for these guys are great honest fishermen. Nice too meet the Older Generation getanet and his boys....show me the walleye! Me topaz and dickorbleed went off to our honeyhole and wound up with 14 SLIME DARTS and countless misses..we even had four flags up at one time! Hey gang I have some bad news from Budd Lake. 5 people went threw the ice this evening. 2 adults and 3 kids. It was on news 12 nj. I'm not sure of there status or how long they were in the water but know there was helicopters and it was a very intense scene. Guys I know you all are for the most part big strong anglers, but please please use extreme caution when ice fishing. Going in is no fun at all.

i would say LH is dependent on main lake ice. I hit the state park w my buddy the sat. of the weekend we had ice and in 2 hours no flags, prob 35 guys out there, saw 1 perch caught by someone, was dead. The lake is lowered right to the weed tops in that area, I wanna get out on the main lake and get sum action. This upcoming week shows lotsa promise w 3-4 days 20's and below

I agree Jimmy, Is there any Ice at the deep water points? I would love to get back out there again. Im not sure we're going to get a good 4 inches of solid ice on the main points with the damn wind. Anything is possible but if not I guess its back to Monksville for me. Always something to catch there, but you have to have a ton of patience. Lets see what happens early next week. On a good note I just got my new St Croix Legend jigging rod in the mail, EPIC! Its like holding a feather, WOW! TIGHT LINES!!!:D

Farrington is a good place if it gets locked up good. Aeroflex is good for winter stocked trout 30 yards off the main lot. Theres a few good spots for the trout but nobody catches much at Aero during ICE season. As far as I know Aeroflex doesn't have Ice yet, thats a nice deep lake.

LH has a little ice in the coves, main lake is still wide open, didnt check the state park that may be OK but there wasnt much action there the weekend we had ice. Its been too windy to lock alot of stuff up, only lakes that were already iced over are locked. Even the farm pond by my old mans is still not locked and that freezes before anything. Im gonna fish saturday up in sussex county theres a good spot I know that has safe ice was on it this morning 2-3" will be prob 6+ by saturday. I really wanna get out on LH or swartswood we need a nice calm night to skim things over

Small sheltered places have safe ice, north side of Monksville is good. LH is 90% open water as of right now. Wind is screwing it up in a bad, bad way. Ill go to Skunksville saturday, always something to catch there. I like fishing difficult places.:D

Yes BD, Woodport is good, probably the only area thats good. I just came back from doing an estimate up there. Ill fish that area saturday just don't venture too close to Brady Bridge. Little bit of open water about 20-30 yards up from the bridge. I didnt go all the way to the north end but im sure theres a few guys on the ICE getting those tasty PERCH!!!

I never ice fished that area or walked on the ice in that area. The lake is lowered, I was up there today. The deepest spot in that whole area is probably 7 feet deep. Good question, where do we park? Ive been back there on my boat but not sure where to park. Might have to choose another lake with safe ICE!!! I don't know, HELP!!! Theres definitely fish to catch in Woodport.

Monksville, Lake Muskenetcong, Woodport on Hopatcong!!! Where ya'll wana go? Lots of places locked up last night but the ice isn't safe in most places. Monks has 6, Budd has 6, Woodport and River Styx are almost 6. Not sure where everyone wants to go. I say Monksville so someone pulls up a 50 inch MUSKY!!! I personally only ice fish places that have a chance for a big Pike,Walleye or Musky. That's just how I GO BIG! Any ideas fellas? TIGHT LINES!!!

I just came off Rte 15 and up Woodport Rd. around noon time today.
The cove near Woodport Marine is covered up. So is most of I think it's called Flash marina.
Looked like open water or just some skim ice about 50-60 yards out or so.
Didn't get out of my car. Just an observation from the road.

I'm 10 minutes away from Woodport and 15 minutes from Aeroflex.
Aeroflex is no problem for parking. I'll try to get back down near Woodport
about 4-4:30 this afternoon. No guarantee. If I can, I'll post some parking info, or I'll PM you Eddie or GetaNet with my cell #.

I don't ice fish anymore but happy to help a brother out if possible.

I don't think it got out of the the mid-teens here today so that should soon change.
Have you guys considered Lees County Park Marina off Howard Blvd ?
That might give you better parking area and more room for greeting & tail-gating.

MEET-N-GREET WRAP UP!!! Showed up at Monks around 9 am, a little late but at least we made it there. Myself and Outofline set up our big baits, 6-7 inch Suckers. We didn't get a damn thing on those Suckers. At least we tried. Flatcreek, Phil and D. River Rat, Tom showed up shortly after we were done setting up our tip-ups. Matt got the only fish of the day, a Perch, fat as a pot belly pig. 12 1/2 inches and 1 pound exactly. Afternoon came and the wind started honking out of the west at 10-15 gusting to around 20-25. We were set up in the bridge area so we all got a nice windburn on the face today. Its all about the people that make you laugh. The fishing wasn't good at all but good times were had by ALL. Killer Whales....lol. Good analogy. About 15 years ago I was on Monksville and watched a Musky take out 2 baby mallards. I felt terrible but nothing I can do but figure eights.

Looks like myself and a bunch of other members will be out on Hopatcong tomorrow. We'll be fishing off Barnes Bros Marina. I did well there on Friday, caught 30 perch between 9-13 inches and 1 pickeral at 24 inches and fat. Ice was 6-8 inches where I was drilling. Come on out boyz. Going to be a little windy but a nice day over all. YEA BUDDY! TIGHT LINES!!!:D

Shoreline was great Friday. No problems at all.they didn't get much rain at Hopatcong today at all. Come on out dude. We'll be off Barnes marina. Should be there around 9 or so. Ill be wearing a gray Spider Ski jacket, black ski pants and a gray hat. Gona be windy but gotta get out there before it melts this coming week.

Think im just guna stay local tomorrow i had around 6o fish or so today over at my local bridge as far as the melt goes i been fishing out in pa they still have 12 to 15 so we should have another 3weeks of real good ice and then the feeder creeks and posible warm weather could start knocking the shoreline off but nothing a good plank cant fix

Well here we are again, another day in the cold and wind. When I give last minute notice more people show up. Myself, Outofline, MikeyTopaz, DuckorBleed, DuckorBleedJr, Jimmylivebait, NjBassman, Jackstraw, Mike the Pike, Joe and his girlfriend met up at Barnes on Hopatcong at around 9 am. NjBassman and Jackstraw were on a mission to jig something off the humps in the deep. They both caught some perch, but not what they were looking for. Me , Mike and Outofline set up our big baits. 10 inch Trout down a 10 inch hole for Mike. 6-7 inch Suckers down the holes for myself and Outofline. Everyone got there Tip-ups in the water and after that it was jigging time. Perch is the word of the day, why, cuz we caught a shitload! After my careful calculations, between the 11 of us that were jigging, we had easily over 100 Perch for the day. Only other fish we got were 3 Pickeral. Some guys caught 3 Perch, some got 20. The Perch we got were all between 9-14 inches with the exception of a few Pumpkinseeds. Biggest Perch was a 1 1/2 lbs on the nose. Mikey Topaz was in a funk today, poor kid couldn't get a raise if he was on Viagra. I saw the disappointment in his face. But he had other things going on. He's a great fisherman and everyone has there bad days. DuckorBleed and the other fellas had some great stories to tell. Lots of BALL BUSTING on this trip. Jimmylivebait, NjBassman, Jackstraw and the rest of my boyz are all GREAT fisherman and have AWESOME personalities. Couldn't of asked for a better day on the ICE. Even if the wind was blowing 15-20 and gusting to 30. As always GOOD TIMES, TIGHT LINES!!!!! YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDY!!!!!!!!!!:D

Great day on the water..errr...ice...once again with the boys! Eddie and his boys know how to put a hurtin on those perch...but I got 4 ok! The other 100 were them so i helped the count ha! I tell you what...nothing beats a day of fishing with great guys and great stories and im looking foward to this spring and summer fishing with you guys. I just got off the phone with topaz and he said the perch came alive at his house when he started cleaning them haha...NEW BATH TOYS! All in all a great day with great fishermen.

Lucky for me the loser didn't have to clean the perch cuz I'd still be cleaning and cooking and serving drinks hahaha...

Seriously that was impressive you guys...haven't seen size and quantity like that in NJ...thought I was in the adrks...
But mission accomplished for me...got to meet you guys and scoped out a place I hadn't been before...

great stuff ed and company!!!!! i fished nolans on saturday in the deep looking for some eyes but no luck.ended up drilling some holes right off the j-house in 8ft of water and caught some perch and sunnies.wanna get out one more day before the eyes close.fished sunday alittle futher back in the cove and had good pick of perch and sunnies.

Thanx guys. It was a good year for big perch. Overall not that good of a year for me. Got on the ice 6 times, used big baits 6 times and only came up with 2 slime darts on tip-ups. I was definately hoping for something bigger but that's how it goes. Took the ice fishing gear out of the truck and put it away for the year. Looking forward to the open water season now. I'm all fired up. TIGHT LINES!!!:D

Best day on the ice for me as far a quantity and quality goes. No dice on the musky or eyez, but it was a great time! Jimmylivebait, DuckorBleed, and Mikey Topaz are a bunch a great guys. It was great to meet you. Ball busting at it's finest!
