Haven't been on the water for two weeks and I was going crazy sitting in the house, so decided to join some friends to spend some time on the ice. Yes, I was that board:eek: :D!

Met up with some old friends and set up a number of tip ups, while this was being done, I made it quite clear that I thought we were wasting our time! Being my first time ice fishing, and seeing recent reports I obviously had very low expectations, but I figured it was better then sitting home again!

Much to my surprise, flags started popping! our first fish was a very nice pike! I figured we got lucky and that would be it. Low and behold, a few minutes later, another flag and another pike! Hmmmmm, this ice fishing isn't so bad:). after a while longer, it was my turn to grab the tip up. ran to the flag and no fish:mad:, a few more minutes and another false alarm! Well finally it happened, someone yelled flag and off I went again, this time I felt some weight and set the hook. a few minutes later had my very first fish thru the ice! another pike.

By the end of the day we had eight pike and one pickerel. Dark came and it was time to pick up the lines, while retrieving one of the lines, I had the line ripped out of my hand! I yelled "fish on" and a few minutes later had a nice big pickerel! Great way to finish off a fun first day ice fishing! At the end of the day I personnaly caught one nice pike and two picks! Not bad for my fist time!

Thanks to my lurker friends for "hooking me up"!

Sorry about the picture quality, didn't expect to catch a thing, so I didn't bring my camera!

Wow steve that's a great way to start off ice fishing. This was my first year ever going ice fishing, been out twice with njf boys and we haven't had much luck. I've only seen one fish caught, a nice perch. Did have a good time, maybe next time you could come along and bring use some luck. How about some tips bait, time off day, and anything else you could think of. (good lake)

Thanks Steve:

We got onto the ice around 2pm and fished til 6. We used large shinners. Had a pick thru out the day and a nice flurry at dusk. We were in jersey not far from my house.

LOL. We saw you out there Steve. You guys looked like you were having a ball. We nailed them in the morning but only got a few fish in the afternoon. Keep that spot to yourself or it will get trashed like every other nice place in NJ.

If I woulda known that was you I would've.:) Next time I will. We were talking to other strange characters on the other side of us. I thought they were gonna go through the ice with that fire. In any event, nice job. The pike you got were bigger than ours. We did score some slammer pickerel and my buddy got a 6-pound bass amongst a few other bass.
