If you all are looking for a terrific place to stay and fish, try Lake Gaston in North Carolina. I've been there many times. A great place for large mouth, cat fish, stripers, crappie, perch, blue gill. I know a place or two to stay at as well. Boat rentals. I always enjoyed my time at Lake Gaston.

It's definetly a beautiful place stayed there in a cabin on the lake in virginia two years ago. As far as the fishing, didn't do too good. We were there in august so prob not the best time to be there but all we caught was small catfish. I caught one bass the entire week , looked really good Ithrew everything i had and live bait too but couldn't find the fish. Had a nest with three bald eagles near the cabin Mom,dad, and the baby what a beautiful site to see! Would go back again in a heartbeat but try to go at another time not august.

Used to live in NC...have not fished this water
Can Recommend the following:
Kerr Lake-big water and lots of action
Harris (South of Cary/Raleigh)-pads, pads, pads, and explosions off the pads
JORDAN LAKE: IMO the KING DADDY. I lived near Raleigh and personally caught more > 8lb bass from all the TN, AL, NC, and Ga lakes I've fish combined!
My second best lake: CLARKS HILL on the boarder of GA/SC-a monster lake and some very large bass and my PB hybrid

Yea, August is a bit warm at Lake Gaston. The fall is nice. I've stayed in cabins on the North Carolina side. Beautiful. With Henrico being built up you do not have to drive for miles to get supplies.
And if you follow the Bass Master Tour. Randy Howell grew up on Lake Gaston. I know his parents well.
Give it a try again but not in the blazing hot summer.
