Never fished there before and looking for some opinions on the fishing. Who fished it before or fishes it sometimes? What type of fishing and what works??????? Thanks for any input or advice. Thinking about a possible winter road trip to some open water and was wondering where to go......

I kayak fished it once about 2 years ago to kill some time while the GF got her hair done. It was early April I think. Tossed soft plastics for Bass, and ended up with a few decent LMB's and a surprise Trout on a senko. I remember guys trolling the deep water for landlocked salmon. Was a nice place, would probably go back.

I last fished Aeroflex ( now called Kittatinny Valley State park ) in 2002, when I sold my Minn-Kota powered 14 ft aluminum. Wish I had it back. Prior to that
probably fished it a few dozen times during the 90's.
Anyway, I remember the cove near I think it was an old Boy Scout camp a few hundred yards north of the launch ramp, to your left. There's a concrete platform there which used to have 3 diving boards. Twenty feet of water right off that platform. Drops to more than 100 feet straight out from there in center of the lake. I've never caught any of the salmon but heard of others who had.
Did get some trout, & perch out of the deep, as well as some LMB from fallen trees all around the lake.
I live about 7-8 miles south of the launch ramp and will be up that way on Tuesday 1/22. I'll try to scout around and stop in one of the two nearby tackle shops for some info, unless you get some other input in the meantime.
Tight lines,
Tom.

its good in warmer weather, its def fishable now too they put a few hundred winter stockies in there. Problem now is theres no dock to launch from, its a beach launch u will need hip waders or duckies at least to get off land

I went by Aeroflex today around noon as I had an appointment up that way.
There is ice forming to about 50 yards out from the boat ramp. Lots of open water yet. The spillway area was still open and flowing.
Unsafe ice now, but I'm sure that will change with the temps this week.
I didn't get a chance to stop at either of the bait shops up that way.
I'd be happy to give any info via PM as they're not sponsors as far as I know.
Make sure you dress for the weather if you go there. I froze my a$$ off in the five minutes I walked around near the boat launch.

I love Aeroflex, or at least I did. I was able to ice fish there when it was between hands of the State, The club that had been there for 40 years and the bank. My buddy and I made a make shift hand gaff (no boga grip) because we didn't know what was coming out of the hole next. Giant pickerel, bass and trout !
In the years that followed when the lake became open to the public we went up there ice fishing again. I remember one morning going up there, people were riding power augers like pogo sticks ! A cloud of two-stroke smoke had settled over the lake, cough !! Hadn't been back since.
But....... you are able to fish the pond at the other end of the runway, you just can't drive your car back there. Then there is Iliff, twin lakes, whites pond etc., all but 5 minutes from each other.
An ice fishing (and open water) mecca.

Thanks for that input Andy. I've never ice-fished on Aeroflex, but you're
absolutely right that its'a mecca. Lots of good lakes up here in Sussex County.
I will give Aeroflex a hard-water try sometime soon. It will freeze up soon I'm sure.
Next week it may warm up to 25. It's 5 degrees up here right now.
Even my dog wants to hurry back to the house.

Thanks for the info Tom. You should try to make the Meet&Greet, it's a good time even if the fish ain't biting Lotta Great People Lotta laughs. Kinda like a big tailgate party!!!!
It's a giant deep bowl. Walk out from the shore 15' and your in 25' of water. Walk out 35' and your in 50' of water. The middle is around 100'. I use a sinker on a string as a depth finder. Usually my tip-ups are in a line running with the shore line 10' from the shoreline. We've caught pickerel over six pounds and won some tournaments there. I prefer the back of the lake. But parking is real tough there. You have to park on the road in the brush and hike in with your gear. Everyone does it.

Saw one guy out ICE fishing Aeroflex Saturday 1-26-13 around 3:30pm down towards the airport end. Eyed the place with binos. One opening in the ice towards the middle that was loaded with geese and swans. Did not go down to talk with the angler to see if any catching was going on
