been a merc/mariner guy for all my life, looking a a 16' lund ssv. can some one tell me y i should stick with the new merc 4 stroke over a new etec. also hopefully transferring to AK next spring is that makes a diff, 2 vs 4 stoke in cold climates

I have a 2008 25 EFI Merc and love it. TOTALLY TOTALLY problem free. Also charges my battery. And is pull start capable when battery has died. GREAT price at Almars
Had a 20hp merc 2 stroke before. A universe of difference ( today is better) . That I had for 22 years
I had 9.9 Merc before that- nice but too slow for my crabbing haunts from the ramps.
ETEC was a good engine on 200hp versions for Sea Tow boat I ran. Was 2 stroke. You knew that. ETEC was traded for a 200 hp Yamahas with about 1400 hours on them. Still running fine.
PM me if you have any questions.

I had a 18hp Tohatsu 4 stroke, pushed me , 16 mirror craft loaded with a layout boat and lots of decoys and 2-3 people 16 -20 mph. I burned like 1 gal per hour and the electric start was great. It also had an auto choke. It really was a great motor, never a problem for 6 years!!!
