Finally got a beast! Passaic River 9/22...

Got a late start today due to a night celebrating( ;) ) my fishing buddy's birthday, but was on the water at my spot around 11am this morning. Tossed spinnerbaits for about 2 hours with nothing to show for my work but two follows from mid-20's Pike. After fighting the wind all day, I was about to pack it in when this monster decided to pick a fight with me. This fish was bigger, stronger, and more pissed than any fish I've ever caught in freshwater. Made 2 drag peeling runs, tail-walked out of my net, drenched me, and smacked my GoPro before making his way back to the water. Fish measured out to 38" and was thick. My new personal best and an absolute HANDFUL in the kayak. Pictures came out a bit blurry from it splashing the camera, so I've posted a video also.

I'd like to submit it to the state's Skillful Angler program, but I'm not sure if they'll accept it with the semi-blurry photo :confused: .

Skunk awesome fish. I was on the river from 6-10 with only 2 follows. The river is very low towards the bridges.

Thats one big point Id like to mention... Out of the 80+ Pike that I have caught this year out of the Passaic.. all of them have been very healthy looking.. even the smallies....

I have seen a few guys fly fishing the river (one from a kayak!), but I'm pretty sure they were going for carp...

Nice fish !!!!!!!!!!!!!When I submitted my 45" 21 pounder for skillful angler award in July I took picture with tape measure and showed picture with scale reading. I submitted it to NJ Fish and game through email in Oxford. Then sent all pics etc..On August 6th 2012. I received a letter from Div of Fish and Wildlife from Trenton, saying congratulations The 45" 21 pound pike submitted in the Skillfull Angler Awards Program has been accepted. Then an award with it saying Skillful Angler Award Winner Nj Fish and Wildlife.And catching and releasing a Northern Pike measuring 45" on July 2, 2012..Talked to a Paul at Oxford said beleives it is the biggest Pike ever caught out of Passaic River....I should of got it mounted..lol..Probably going to have replica made up........Nice fish!!!!!!!!!!

I was in the kayak riding solo, so handling the fish alone was a b*tch. I tried to get a picture of a measurement, but it was just too difficult. I'm sure by looking at the pictures, an educated eye could tell the fish met and exceeded the required 34" mark. I have a buddy who submitted one for a monster Hopatcong Muskie without a tape measure picture, just the measurements, and they gave him the award for it. Just don't know if they'd accept mine with the water droplet on the lens. Guess I won't know unless I try right?

Definitly nice fish just submit all the pics and fill out the forms of pole reel line etc.. Then they will have someone look at it. Like flyboy said you can tell that it is over 34" man that must of been nuts by yourself in a kayak..lol. I think I told you already I caught mine on 6 lb test with no liter he snapped the line when I got it to the bank and my little brother jumped on it..lol..crazy day..
