Got the next two days off and looking to take the boat out. It's a 16 foot deep V, 25HP, plus dual trolling motors for the electric only locations so I need a launch.

Any recommendations on what's hot right now? Have heard good things about Hopatcong but wouldn't know where to start.....never been there.

Any info would be great.

Thanks,
Ken

The 25hp motor restricts you to the bigger lakes/reservoirs or the rivers, as a majority of them in NJ are 9.9hp limit. Spruce Run, Greenwood Lake, and Hopatcong come to mind. The Bass fishing has seemed to slow down, so trolling for Walleye or Muskie at one of those places may be your best bet. The Passaic and Pompton Rivers are also good bets, just watch for shallow areas with the water levels being so low. No horsepower limits on either, just watch out for guys like me cruising around in kayaks  . Lots of douches out there who couldn't care less about the effects of their wake! Good luck!

spruce run is low and sucks right now, was there 2 weeks ago, thermocline at 11 feet fishing was bad just 2 dink smallies all evening into the night. Hopatcong can be good but u gotta know the lake, if you never been I wouldnt bother. Best bet is electric only lake what area u live in? Bass is still hot depends on how u like to fish. Most weedy lakes will have u flippin/pitchin into the thick stuff or worm/jiggin. Only places I know that u can use a 25HP is budd lake, cranberry lake, greenwood, hopatcong, pompton, muskanetcong, everything else is 9.9 or electric only. If you decide to hit hopatcong fish any prominent points w some live herring w a slip sinker rig 10-15 feet down or live line or both. Thats the best bet if you dont know the lake, the traffic is light this time of year especially weekdays......
