Best thing about fall stocking in the streams is that it coincides with all the leaves dumping off the trees, a mjor P.I.A. These fish are big and fat and have plenty of stored fat so they don't have to eat right away unlike their 12" counterparts. Don't fish for these stockies right away, let people throw the tackle box at them and and battle the leaves. Come the 1st week of Novenber these fish start getting hungry then it's lights out for the month of November. Like I always say for that time of year, trout during the day, stripahs at nite :D

A little bum'd that I don't see any stock info for Union County. Well, I'm looking for any of you guys who might be looking for a little company this fall. I'm way out of my element when it come to trout outside of Union county.

Raritan River, South Branch (including TCA, Ken Lockwood Gorge) - 2,610
It should read 2,600 for Ken Lockwood Gorge and the other 10 some where in the South Branch.
Plus another 15,000 into the Muddysquan !!!!:D

And Union County gets the big shaft!
Lets face the facts. There are few if any places that are decent Trout water in Union County.
I live in Union County, and always travel to other counties to fish.

Hey Andy, I know you're being somewhat sarcastic, but will the stocking of the South Branch be THAT skewed? They don't spread those fish out at all?

Fall trout are slated to be stocked @ all of the regular spring stocking points.
However, if the fall water levels are too low @ any particular stocking point, then the hatchery driver can exercise his discretion, & stock them (remember these fall trout are bigger, than spring trout) @ deeper stocking points on the same stream.
And, the 15,000 into the Muddysquan,………………they average 8”.

Jigman, yes, they do a very good job of spreading them out, but I think a few extra net fulls find their way into the KLG by accident every fall :D

Andy,
Interested in taking my 8 year old son up to Merrill Creek Res for some trout and lakers this weekend. We have a Lowe Aluminum boat with one down rigger and were looking for some advice/direction. We have all the necessary gear just not sure what approach to take or if the lake has turned over yet. Any advice would be appreciated. My son and I have fished the heck of out South Jersey where we live, catching bass, white perch and crappies. Wanted to try and get him some trout or lakers.
Thanks!

Harrisburg — Folks who are into fall trout fishing may want to make the most of it in coming weeks because next year fall stockings will be just a memory on many streams.
The Pennsylvania & Boat Commission is planning to cut the number of waters it stocks in the fall by 50 to 70 percent because of lack of angler interest, according to Tom Greene, the agency’s cold-water management chief.
Currently, 150 lakes and streams are stocked in the fall.
“October is a great time to be on a trout stream, but no one is fishing,” Greene said. “The day of reckoning has finally come: we’ve got to stop wasting the resource.”
In Pennsy it's all about the deer hunting in the fall.

For all you serious trout dudes out there, I'm hearing that there is a lack of fish in the Pequest. Can anyone verify this?

Kind of wish they would divert some of the Manasquan Rivers fish and put them back into the Manasquan Reservoir like they used to in the past. They were fun to catch.. and those Hybrids need a protein boost ;)
