The salmon run will be late like last year, and so will the rain... On average it rains a little more than 4 inches in august they are only at a little over 2 inches.

Thanx Wilson. The rain will come, oh yes it will. In the last 15 years ive been going up there, ive been going on september 17th and theres always fish to catch. Many SUICIDE RUNS!!! My main trip is usually the 2nd or 3rd week in october. I went up once for Columbus weekend and will never do that again. My boyz went 4-6 on Salmon and then went to OZ and got a couple limits of small browns. FISH ON FISH OFF FISH ON FISH OFF!!! TIGHT LINES!!!

Just came back off the big Lake, went 1 for 6, with a Coho 12lbs to the net. Saw 1 king off the Rt 3 bridge, he was swiming in circles. The river is way low and warm, no chance of a early run, even with Kayak release. Went up to Altmar and swung thru Trestle hole.Pineville,(nice new bridge)and the (Compactor) 2A hole is a trickle as was lower Ballbark. Relax boys it's going to be later unless weather changes.

They are talking about steehead and salmon in the lake Ontario tributaries.. I live only 2 hours away in NY state, but avoid it like the plague.. I went once years ago, even caught a big salmon my first time, but it was such a zoo, I will never go back.. Maybe things have changed but I didn't enjoy the madness and mayhem.. Most of the salmon caught in the streams up there are still foul hooked. The steelheads do hit in the tribs, but salmon are really not easy to catch legally once they start up the streams to spawn.. the DEC is everywhere, and they still give out a LOT of tickets... bob

It is bad at parts of the river town pool for ex. as long as you get away from the people and not use forty lb mono like locals and use light fluro under ten lb test ud be suprised how many more fish u hook and hook legally in the mouth! dont kid urself wen u find a hen on the nest or an area that fish are stagin and spawning and u throw and it goes over the nest usually the hen nails in defense cause it thinks it messing with the nest.evrey fish that i ve ever snagged u either feel rod pullsating the fish tails stroking and i snapp em off or if there hooked anywhere but the mouth usually get off providing u dnt have forty lb mono to treble hook

Believe mikey when he says they will bite a fly if you use the rigjt technique and not heavy mono with 5 split shots a foot from the hook. Cant wait to see my busted up knuckles:)

Just a fyi, regs are weights need to be 4 feet from the hook. Lining is the technique you are talking about, Salmon don't eat anymore once they hit the river.

You are so wrong... They will bite out of aggression and will eat upon entering the river.
I have watched numerous kings and coho's drop back to take my fly, please don't spread misinformation.
Once the salmon have been in the river for more than 2 days yes they will not bite or eat they will spawn and die.

anybody on here tried fishing lake Oontario this time of year? Ive read and been told theres lots of them staging up in the lake by the tributary entrances before they go up the streams. I have a 17' deep V and have downriggers and the right equipment but not sure it can handle it. I fished Lake O 10 years ago outta toronto on a family visit and we were on a 27' ocean boat and there was 3-4 foot chop out there nothing for that size baot. I know I can handle 2-3' max and been reading lots of fish caught in under 100' of water but alot of guys fish the "big blue" 200+ FOW. One of my buddies' brother goes every year in the fall w a 17' similar to mine and they seem to catch fish just wondering if anyone has experience up there........thankx

I said they won't eat, which has been scientificaly proven as their stomachs beging to shrink. Aggresion? I guess so, we can debate that forever. Where did u get the 2 day rule from? Not sure what misinformation I was spewing, the fact is weights must be 4 feet from the hook, trebles are a no-no and targeting Salmon on beds is just not right and may be in violation.

Love the SR in Fall and Spring but more so the Fall. Late October into November and any time during the winter weather allows. Can't wait for the steel run to begin, won't be long. A few pics and my infamous skein glue eggs which are killers on the river!
