Anyway, been doing a little more freshwater fishing these day being that I am disgusted by what I have seen with regards to the surf/slaughter/striper fishing. I will wait till the fall to fish for those once things calm down. Enough said.....

Headed up to the Catskills for Father's Day so I'll post a report on that when Leif and I get back.

Here is a report of the last fly fishing trip.....

I fished with my good friend Adam D'Onofrio on the Beaverkill and East Branch for a few days this past week. We did pretty well catching many nice trout. The fishing wasn't easy, but one you found them, they cooperated.

Most of the fish were caught on dries with the size 12 Conovers accounting for most of the fish. We got a few on my size 12 March Brown Klinkhammer as well and a nice 23 7/8 inch brown on a Black Marabou Streamer. We totaled 27 fish. Most were in the 13-17 inch range and 10 being smaller sized in the 6-12 inch range. We had 3 rainbows, 1 brook and 23 browns.

We used 3x and 4x tippets and 4 and 5 wt rods.

We fished pretty hard logging a good 8-9 hours of fishing each day. Fished 7am-12pm, had lunch took a nap and then back at it from 5-9pm

Fantastic report and pics!

one question: is this a conover? guess it's a classic catskill fly?

Rob, Thanks!

Yes, that is a Conover you have pictured. Here are some I tied. I add a little more red wool to mine. They can vary some. Golden Badger hakle, red wool, gray fur mixed with a pinch of seal for the body and a cream tail.

Those photos are so nice, I'll forgive you for using a fly rod. :p

Seriously, great job. I'm glad people are taking advantage of the fantastic fishery in that area. Beaverkill and East/West Branch are the best trout fishery east of the Rockies. I guess there's a reason why Roscoe is called Trout Town USA!

Anyway we stayed local and caught some bass and bluegills on the fly. The important thing is that we spent some time together and caught fish on the fly. Leif brought his bait caster for bass but when he saw me doing a number on the panfish, he quickly switched to the fly rod....

My son made me a bunch of yellow foam beetles for father's day and the fish seemed to really like them!

Not the East Branch or lunch in Roscoe, but we will spend a couple of days up there soon. Hopefully the water temps will remain cool for a while.

Hope everyone had a great Father's Day!
