Saw a picture today of a 12lb plus rainbow taken out of the Wanaque. Picture in the Messenger a local paper in the West Milford area.

Sure it does.
The fish was caught on ???? using ?? lb. test.
Almost a state record... but not.
Poor reporting from the Messenger IMHO.
Nice fish none the less .

Awesome. Just plain awesome.

Stocked or wild do you think?

I would say stocked by the looks of it's tail, rounded, usually a sign of tank wear and tear. The Wananque is generally not very deep, there are a few holes that could hold him but not many.

i agree... def. a stocker by the looks of the tail
either way, awesome fish!

It's not a salmon, more likely a breeder, the state has dumped many in the rivers.

Definitely nice bow , also definitely a stocky! Tail a dead giveaway.
Non of NJ streams will holdover fish like this not because of stream size depth etc, simply due to angling pressure!
If that was an very unlikely holdover it would be a lot darker as well!
The late winter
r fish I catch that spent the winter in a stream after bring fall shocked all take
on darker features & the males show a decent kype.
This looks to be a big freshly stocked female.

Fish of a lifetime.. thats what it is...

You have to see trying to fit a fish like that in a stocking net to throw in..

Its hilarious trying to heave something like that into the river...

They dont make em any bigger than that.. There are a number of golden ticket rainbows in the streams in NJ that size..
