CLINTON TWP. — A fisherman’s hook snagged human remains at Round Valley Reservoir. Now law enforcement personnel are trying to find out who the victim is.

New Jersey State Police and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the discovery of what they only described as “partial human remains." The reservoir, part of a state park, is mainly in Clinton Township, touching Lebanon.

Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III and the State Police issued a press release late Saturday afternoon announcing the discovery.

“The partial remains were recovered by a fisherman who reported his hooks snagged the remains. Authorities were contacted and retrieved the remains when the fisherman returned to shore,” the release said.

The Hunterdon County medical examiner took custody of the remains. The investigation continues to determine exactly where in the water the partial remains were recovered by the fisherman to determine if additional remains can be recovered to identify the victim.

I am trying to picture this happening, and honestly, i can't see a way for it to work without foul play being involved.

say there's a body down there for a few weeks or months, you snag hook it, what do you hook? probably the pants or shirt, so what would you reel in? you'd reel in pants or a shirt... what's left of the body would fall out on the way up.

now, on the other hand, if you snag hooked a duffel bag full of body parts... you'd reel in a duffel bag full of body parts.

all of the agencies have their major case units involved rather than missing person units...

Today, heard from an RVTA member that it was a shoed or booted foot.

I think an old boot would give a better fight than a lake trout ! ;)

My brother in law gave some scuba lessons in Round Valley and I thought he told me they kept track of when he was in and out of the water. I was hoping to take a dive there as well but the group that I know who dives usually goes to Dutch Springs in PA.

Nice. I just got certified this March in Hawaii. The water there wasn't warm like the Carribean in the Summer but it wasn't cold either. I used a wet suit but probably didn't need it.
