Decide to pick apart a section of the raritan today, covered a few mile stretch
in south bound brook.Ended up with 13 stripers 8-12",5 smallies, and 6 white perch.I was using a white 1/8 grubb with a teaser 1/16 grubb similiar to what you would use will plugging bass in the ocean which resulted in 2 double headers.

Hard to believe that a river that was practically dead 20 years ago from pollution is giving up fish like this now. Very cool and great job Shucker.

Hard to believe that a river that was practically dead 20 years ago from pollution is giving up fish like this now. Very cool and great job Shucker. The Raritan wasn't dead, it just didn't have the diversity. It was pretty much smallmouths, sunfish, rock bass, crappie, carp and catfish, and that was it. Fifty fish days were pretty commonplace back then, too.

The past few years have produced some exciting developments, with shad and stripers running up, big schools of white perch, and walleye taking up residence. Not to mention the occasional tale of big toothy critters. Mark my words, it won't be long before the Raritan is mentioned in the same breath as the Delaware River.

I'm a complete newbie to fishing the Raritan but the diversity of what is now being pulled out of there is just amazing.

Andy's advice to me going out was to bring a light, medium, and heavy outfit with me and chuck everything. Even with a slow bite I caught something on each rod I brought with me.

After catching scrappy stripers on an ultra-lite, changing up and chucking a 4.5 inch swimbait on a M/H baitcaster set-up into fast currents really got the antcipation levels ramped up.
