Absolutely, Ridiculously Insane Shad Fishing

Chris_JC, his brother Brian and myself hooked-up today with good friend and Big D River guide Dieter Scheel. Dieter is the man for shad fishing and in the 10 years he's been guiding he has never put this many fish in the boat in a single trip. We fished from 7am to 1:45pm and hooked into 81 shad, 67 of which found the net. All fish were released except for 2 deeply hooked roes and one deeply hooked buck that were taken for dinner. An absolutely amazing day of fishing with good friends on a beautiful river on a gorgeous day. Perfection.

It was an f-ing amazing day out with my brother, Mark, and Dieter. It was an omen when we spied a bald eagle hanging out in a famers' field at 6AM between Flemington and Stockton.

I had never caught a shad before and will probably be ruined for life as so many made it to the boat. Those big roe really put up a fight. I brought home one of the ones that were hooked deep with no expectations of tasting good but I surprised how bad it tasted. I enjoy most other fish and big bluefish would be like 1000 times better than the shad.
