So this is my first posting and I am so pumped to find an ACTIVE forum with worthwhile info. I'm headed out to the ramapo today to try my luck chasing two freshwater cows I've never encountered... Why only shoot for one?
Carp.. Was out at 7 chummin some sweet corn and I'm headed back there now with a couple sticks. We shall see.
Later on I'm off to walmart for steel leader cuz I need to catch a pike before i die.
I'm going with minnows but being so new to the pike chase any help you can give me would be much appreciated. I'm gunna be just north of pompton lake and all I've ever done there is some catfishing with decent luck. Otherwise I will do what I can to forward on valuable info from here on out..
Oh no, the wife is coming I'll see yas on the water

Good Luck on the Pike chase. I grew up chasing them and I love fishing for them. I hear the 2 bridges area is a decent place to track them down.

The BIGGEST shiners you can get, spoons and rapalas have worked best for me. I've fished Pompton Lake a ton for Pike and have only hooked up with a few. The state record Pike did come out of there though...
Welcome aboard and definetly dont be shy about posting reports! Like you said, the more activity, the better

I haven't been able to get them that big around here, usually 4-5" are the biggest Meltzer's and Totowa bait and tackle carry.
A Pike a landed last week had something at least 10" half digested hanging out of its throat though, so I'm sure something that big would work.

My goodness well some spotty weather had my hopes up, but during the afternoon which was dedicated to goldfishn had no bites. But who cares I'm out for the pike so after a break I was just out from 4-6 and no pike but one bigass crappie got my minnow. Franks b&t had some nice big shiners so I'm just gunna go ahead and blame that section of the river. I had 4 rods out for both sessions and no bites. Gunna hit the Passaic tomorrow for another crack at the pike. Any time of day tips for pike? Still got some leftover minnows so that'll be my ammo
