...and it was a 7" sucker.

Who cares. Hit a wooly bugger. Trout were feeding all over the place. Finally figured out that after catching this guy that the flashes on the bottom were probably suckers and I called it a night. Still had fun horizontal casting up and down the river tonight. Gotta love these small and tight nj streams. :)

Congrats! Catching that first fish on the fly rod has to be satisfying regardless of what kind of fish it is. Hoping to get my first fish on the fly rod this year too.

hey dont diss suckers... they have to feed too :D

congrats, and realize you arent the first fooled sucker... er I mean, the first to be fooled by sucker flashes :D

native suckers make spawning runs right around this time every year... that said if you can *find* some spawning suckers, perhaps try drifting some "sucker" spawn or other egg flies down below where you see them.
