Launched the kayak at a new spot on the Passaic today with hopes of landing a Pike or two. Paddled upstream to an area I fished from land over the week and began tossing the usual spinnerbaits and husky jerks. Was kind of dead for the first 2 hours until I hooked up with something solid. Was fighting the fish for a good 20 seconds until the fish surfaced, rolled and the lure went projectile passed my face. I did get a decent glimpse of him, it was a pike without a doubt : (

About 10 minutes later though, I hooked up with this solid Smallie on a green/orange 5" husky jerk. The bastard drew blood when he shook his head while I was getting the hooks out of his face! Fished for a little bit longer then the rains came. Was glad to break my week-long skunking.

Nice smallie,ah i remember first posting about the pike and smallmouth in the Passaic, cant remember how many years ago. What i do remember were some insulting remarks concerning my sanity! Glad to see an interesting fishery being utilized. Since revisiting the river in Feb. and mid-March i've caught two pike 30 and 24 inches and five nice smallmouths in three trips. Good luck all.

I've been doing pretty well with the Smallies for a few years now...it's the Pike I'm still dialing in on

I definetly love the comments I get from non-fishing people when I show them some of these pictures and tell them it came out of the...oh no...don't say it...PASSAIC RIVER!
