What a day!!! Started off in my "new" spot around 10. Nothin but snags for about a hour. Then I threw out a shiner with a 6in steel liter, jig it in, and have it bitten off by something. With a steel liter!! Went to a familiar spot after that, quickly caught a Chunk Smallie!!

Few casts later, I hooked into what I'm 99% sure would have been the heaviest fish I've ever caught. Soon as I hooked it it ran 40 yards. After about 20 mins of the best fight of my life, she spit it. Got the hook, liter, and bait all back. Never even got to see it. :-( I'm guessing it was a huge cat since it never even came close the the surface. Aaahhhhhhhh!!!

Anyway, made it up with another Chunk Smallie and a very colorful pike, decent size that even gave me a jump. All in all, it was a beautiful day and I'm a happy camper!!

Beautiful fish! I was at that spot today too and got the skunk. I knew I should have picked up live bait. Where do you get shiners near the Passaic?
I usually get them at Meltzers, but would like to find somewhere closer to Fairfield, Wayne, Totowa area.

Totowa Bait and Tackle in Paterson sells shiners. Not too far from the Great Falls.
