To a quick ride out to Penns Creek today, the 3 hour ride was nothing.
Fished an area Wilson and I by passed last time we were out there, the Catch and Release section Swift Run to Cherry Run, 3.9 miles near Weikert. I hiked in on the Mid-State trail and was fishing by 9am. Great water, clear and a little high. From 9-11 I got NOTHING !! I said to myself, did I just drive 3 hours for nothing, then just after 11 all heck broke loose, like some one flipped a switch. 5+ fish coming out of some holes and a pick just about every where I went. Nothing huge today, most 12 to 14", bigger ones fought down and dirty while small ones shot out of the water doing crazy tail dances.
Was it worth the drive, you betcha !!
( Disclaimer, no slime coats or fish were injured in the taking of these lousy photos)

i had a similar day on Friday. nothing until one oclock...from one to 4 non-stop action vert jigging...like you said a switch clicked on! The catches were mostly small but i was like a little kid one after another! I read that this time of year the bite is during the afternoon warm up the temp goes up a degree and they go nuts.... seems to be true

Stream photos don't do it any justice, go to Penns Creek Angler website and look at the pools link.

No kill, artificials only, any rod and reel.
Is that a change in the last few years, or is my mind playing tricks again?

Have you ever camped at Poe Paddy State Park? That affords you nice access to th catch and release section, not to mention the Trophy trout water upstream of that.;)

I believe that may have changed from FF only, I fished out there several times with one of my accounts & I seem to remember fly only, unless another stretch was added since the ten years I last fished the creek. Not sure, anyway GREAT FISHERY PERIOD.

agreed. I fished Penns back in the 60s and 70s when they stocked the park area. It was a madhouse come opening day, but I would go off by myself and fish Swift Run and Poe Creek for natives.
