The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife has been performing a fish salvage operation at Prospertown Lake (Ocean County) since the outlet structure failed earlier this week. The lake, a popular fishing destination, is located within the Prospertown Lake Wildlife Management Area.
As of Tuesday, September 13, approximately 1,000 black crappies, bluegills, yellow perch, brown bullheads and largemouth bass have been collected by division personnel. The fish have been have been relocated to Turnmill Pond located on the nearby Colliers Mills WMA.
The lake level has continued to drop approximately one foot each day and the lake is anticipated to drain entirely. Salvage efforts will continue through the remainder of the week as lake conditions permit.

Stopped at the lake to check out the situation. What a shame. I have only fished it a few times, but to see a lake in the condition it's in is upsetting. I will try to post a picture or two that I took of it today.

I believe there is a levy and a damn on opposite sides of the lake and the levy broke during Hurricane Irene and it's been letting water out every day since then. Someone recently mentioned as much as 1ft of water per day.

I went past there on 9/23. Even stopped and walked out a ways. Very sad. Only interesthing thing was noting that that were barely any structure underwear. Bunch of small tree stumps.

That sucks about the dam/levy. Hopefully they do something about it. How is or was this lake fed?
I've always wondered what indian lake in little ferry would look like if it was drained.

Some of you guys who fish the lake should try talking to Fish and Game about putting some boulders. trees or slabs of concrete in there. Instant structure.

We will start structure building on our own when time permits ( How did all those limbs get there ? Must be Beavers ) . The mud in most places in the back is still too soft . Rollercoaster Point needs a remake . I figure 3 years after they restock and she will be back .
