Hit Stone Tavern Lake today as we were able to fix the motor. We got on the water at 5:00 am. Had a good bite for the first 2 hours. Then as the sun came up above the trees, it died. We picked 3 more fish in the next 2 1/2 hours before we left. We got off the lake at 9:30 am. We had 15 bass, 2 sunfish, 1 crappie, aand 1 pickeral. That 19 fish in 4 1/2 hours. Big fish was a 2.5 lb. bass. All of our fish were on topwater. Didn't see a lot of bass smashing the bait schools this morning but there was plenty of shad and small sunfish swimming around. Was a lot of boat traffic this morning(more of what you would expect at Assunpink). Overall a good morning of fishing.

Hey AJ You guys fish a lot of top water which is the best bite in town...how was the sub surface action or did you try?
Boat traffic...last time I was at Assunpink I personally counted 27 boats on the water which is a lot for this pond that gets incredible pressure and there was NOT a tournament that day

Tried working shad raps around the bait schools and near the damn to no avail once the sun came up. Did see a guy in a kayak get 2 bass on a wacky rigged Senko and a guy get a pickeral on a crankbait. Last blowup came next to a fallen tree, was on the way in. 1 fish that smashes a topwater is worth 5 fish below my sight to me. Should be real good fishing in the late fall when the bass start gorging themselves before winter sets in. TON of shad in that lake. Was somewhat crowded this morning but no 27 boats:eek: .

Fall is usually good freshwater fishing but I focus alot more on saltwater fishing then. I am looking forward to Rainbow Lake in the fall, had some good days during the fall there especially with big panfish.

Yeah
It is hard to think about LM bass, pickerel and the such when the Blues, false albecore and stripers are about.
That said, freshwater fishing can be at it's best at those times when you cant make it to the salt and only have a few hours to kill.
