got up to mahwah at 5:45am and wasnt fully awake yet so i hit scarlet oak for about 45 minutes before trecking up to mcmillon...6 am got my first hook with (what i think is) a damn decent sized crappie (blurry pic, correct me if my ID is wrong) 6:15 i hit for a largemouth (the pic where it still has the lure in its mouth) then went up the hill for what turned into the biggest waste of 1 1/2 hours with not even a love tap (on lures or nightcrawlers)...went back down to scarlet and 15 minutes before i left i landed the 2nd LM (the pic with no lure in its mouth)...damn decent 3 hour day even with the waste of time up the hill...all 3 caught on different color 1/2 oz rats

Depends on where you go. I had a great day yesterday with a friend and we managed 25+ LMB (average 3lbs), and 10+ pickerel.

In NJ? I don't know any bass guys who say they can find a lake with a 3 lb. average in New Jersey. Maybe several mixed in like Merrill Creek Resevoir but not average. However, great job no matter how big the fish were. By the way, please send PM of name and location of this place:D . Oh and by the way Johnny, start at 5:00 am and be ready for sunrise. You are much better than most though for sure. See so many guys get on the lake at 9:00 or 10:00 am when Im getting off. I almost want to tell them they missed the big show:D . Just wondering, how big was the crappie in length? Looks like a slab to me so good job.

PM me the location as well! and it was closer to 6 lol i was up at 4:30 but by the time i did what i had to in the AM and got there some time passed. during the school year i had to wait till i dropped the kids off before i could go out and got skunked on a regular basis, going out on saturdays now (since im FINALLY back to work) i try to get out as early as my body lets me...and guessing at length id say maybe 12" or a lil better (didnt have a tape with me so its just a guess)...was still half eyed at that point and thought it was a LMB at first (yeah i was shot) till i saw the dorsal and smaller mouth but it was the biggest crappie ive caught and he put up a damn good fight

12 in. is a good crappie. You can target them with small curly tail grubs rigged on a small jighead. Find em and it's lock and load. One of the best eating fish in freshwater. They will strike bass lures from time to time. My PB is 2 lbs. on a popper. Attacked it like a big bass too. Good luck.

Good luck.was using 1/2oz rat L traps, 3 different ones...from top to bottom is crappie, 1st LMB and 2nd LMB...the top one i caught with at spring lake, the middle one twice at scarlet oak and the bottom one was a first time catch (just picked it up last week)...tried senkos (4 & 6") but no love taps at all...was throwing them in the NW corner of scarlet catching nothing but underwater weeds
