Hit the Passaic today. Overcast, new moon approaching....it felt fishy and it was. Since I lost like $70 worth of lures last time, I brought cheaper(er) soft-plastics and swim baits. The Storm 4-inch bass colored swim shad and the Strike King Shadilicious rigged on a Gami, screw-style weighted swim bait hook caught the fish. First fish was the biggest. I was only there 5 minutes and tucked my cast under a tree next to a blow-down. When the swim shad was a few feet from the shore a green rocket came out. It pulled me into a snag and just as I was ready to take a swim to set it free, it swam out on its own. Got a picture. The fish was 30-inches. I added a chunk bass and a 25-inch pike and missed MANY more fish that were missing the bait or not getting hooked. Great action for a couple hours. I love pike, they hit like a ton of bricks and even the small ones dog you.

I've been wanting to hit up that river for while now. I should just make the trip up there already.

Nice work Catfish. That is a nice pike. I should have hit the Passaic as well, instead of wasting time on the Ramapo trying to chase one smallie per mile. Your 365 days of fishing blog has been very enjoyable to read.

Did you happen to nab any smallies today? .

Thanks guys....and no smallies. There were a ton of smaller largemouth taking swipes at my swimbaits though.

Very cool!

I've found that all the largemouth Ive caught in the Passaic have looked exactly like the one you posted: not big in length, but a nice chubby girth.

What time of day did you land the pike?

Bunker Dunker.....thanks man. I've used Rapalas and stickbaits there a couple times and have had success, but I've also lost a ton of lures because the spot has lots of snags and a lot of times you have to cast under/around trees to get it in the right spot. After losing $70 worth of Rapala Flat Raps and Storm Thundersticks last time, I said F$#$ that and brought the cheap swim shads. The big single hook doesn't get caught up as much, and even the pike that brought me into the brush pile came out.

Skunk City, I fished from 5pm to 6:30pm, but I think FastEddie fishes the same spot and I've seen him post that he catches them in the middle of the day.
