I haven't been there in a few weeks but wanted to see if anyone had any night time reports on the hybrids. I read in the other Hopatcong post that it's died off there, but I've heard from other people that they go all summer in Spruce.

Anyone? Bueller?

I talked to a guy I know and he said small sunnies under bobbers at night were working really well at Spruce Run.

Spruce Run Wot's...uh the Deal...few reports on this forum

Late fall for me for LMB, SMB, and pike during the day when the lake was way, way, way down... fishing the exposed weed lines. Have only been there a few times.

Have seen folks trolling live bait with 1-2 hookups on the hybrids...

Live bait fishing is not my thing so...

Is the nightfishing in the summer better? For LMB/SMB/pike? And well hybrids?

And who is successful with lures and which ones? and on What?

Buddy of mine and I fished there two weeks ago...evening for LMB and into the late night for Hybrids. LMB were shallow despite the 82 degree water. Only got a few but they were nice 2.5 to 4 lbs. All on Green pumpkin with Chart tail Senkos tight to shore or brushy cover. After dark it was like someone took everything out of the lake....nothing...dead calm and nothing breaking the surface. We trolled for hours looking for anything on the graph...couldn't even find bait. Don't know if we just picked a bad night or didn't stay late enough but the Hybrids were a bust. And we were using live herring.

2 weeks ago I tried at night there for first time for catfish right where inflow of Spruce Run Creek is. To my surprise, there were about 10 other people fishing. No catfish taken on livers but I got a handful of hungry 8 - 10" hybrids. There were tons of herring breaking out of the water all around and right near the bank but beside one big splash I saw nothing was bothering them.

Heard a report from a friend who fished there last week. He fished from 11pm-4am casting at breaking fish. Two guys caught 5 in that time.

So we went, and got skunked. Everything didn't really start turning on until after 1am (earlier in the summer it seemed to turn on after 1130pm-12am) but even still, we each only got 1 hit on our baits, but no succesful hook-ups. I don't know if it's been the heat wave and they're shut down overall, but the water temp was basically 83-84*F. You could hear the tail slaps but not as often as earlier trips. Bait seemed to be everywhere as usual. We also saw the thermocline quite obviously on the fishfinder about 10-15ft down in any water deeper than 20-25ft.

Thanks for the report. Are the "tail slaps" from carp jumping (have seen a lot of this there) or other fish actually breaking water?

Success for me has been in the mid to late fall there.

Question: What is the current water level: Full pool, half pool, or way down?

Hopefully this hot weather hasn't shut everything down everywhere. Plan on trying a new lake tommorow, got word it's loaded with bass. Hoping for some topwater action before it gets Death Valley hot out there:eek: .

Weatherman says Death Valley next day or so....

Get there early or late and bring lots of water and sun screen

It's at 96% .....It was at 99.9 on the 14th but they had a couple big release days lately. Note says it's a pipe inspection rlease. Had a big release at RV too. Here is a nice easy website to check the levels and rainfall stats and the flow rates at some local spots.

Thanks for the link and looks like full pool. Actually like when the lake is WAY down and ya gotta launch to the right of the ramps...well IT is what it is. Looking to go there in a month or so from then on...

Its the hybrid stripers trying to (what I assume) is trying to stun the bait with their tail or they crash the water and make a big slap noise. It's definately them though as I've heard and seen them doing the same exact thing at night before.

I will say that I've seen carp doing the big splash/tail slap thing during spawn but only usually during the morning hours.
