Bounced around the S.B. between Flemington & Neshanic last night with my son searching for smallies and new holes to fish. It was his first time wading in water shoes and swimsuit. There were quite a few people on the river either fishing or picnicking. I ignored those areas.
Fishing was slow. We managed 4 bass and 4 sunfish on our jigs and plastic worms. Of course the fish seemed to turn on as the daylight ran out. Highlight was watching the boy catch a 14" smallie on a 4'6" microlight rod -- turned out to be the best fish of the night!

Big fish love to hit on those ultralights:D. They know it's they're best chance of escaping. Nice report, smallies are awesome.

Good job...Neshanic has some killer spots if you can find them! Not to many people really ever give that section of river enough credit or time....some of my biggest bronze backs have been taken in that area....

Madd,
From your posts and your location I know that area is your home turf and probably know the river pretty well. Like I said in my post, lots of people out that day. Stopped by the white bridge only to find people swimming and hanging out. Over at black pointe bridge there were already a few guys fishing. I moved on and found my own piece of water. I'd like to do a float trip in my canoe through that stretch. My son plays hockey in Flemington so I usually drop him off at practice and hit the river for an hour or so. Might be a little too hot for that today!!
