I'm heading down to the Tuckerton area this weekend (ailing father in law - sucks :( ) and looking to get out for a few hours with the wife (she's a fish nut too thank God) as she needs a break. Anyone know of anything worth hitting from shore?
I know there is Lake Manahawkin off of 72 and Lake Pohatcong right off main street in Tuckerton but don't know anything about them. Not sure what is available in the creeks leading out to the bay either.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I think Bauer's was sold several years ago and is private.

don't know how good it is but Batsto is a bit closer to Tuckerton than Bauer's it seems to me.
I've only fished below the dam waiting for herring to show...and some decent fish are in that pool... but most folks fish the lake proper, it seems.

and kcritch, been through the ailing in laws... went through it for 10 years... they are gone now. as tough as it is at times, enjoy the time with them while you can.

Hey thanks for the note.....and the info. Father in law is a great guy and it sucks to see him in the state he is in.
Didn't get a chance to do anything but run errands this past weekend but will be back down there again the this coming weekend. I'll let you know if I get a chance to check out Batsto....It is closer than Bauers from where I will be.
Thanks Again
Ken

any of the lakes in and around that area will have pickerel. just find some cedar water and get some killies. sopme of my best pickerel days were on batsto lake and on the river by the mill however the weedline changed there and the fishings never been the same but if you fish killies you'll get some freshwater barrracudas

Even better, pickeral on topwater. Small poppers or Heddon Torpedoes will work. Find a retrieve that is working and get ready! The best is when they wake behind it and crush it. Otherwise, they slash at it violently, making for a very exciting hit. Rapalas worked twitch and pause will catch most pickeral. And if all fails, killies will catch toothy critters.

used to do great on 3 inch sluggos in the pines and husky jerks to go along with the old stand by daredevil but if ya want quick action lob a fat minnie on there for da barracuda
