hello everyone,

i finally got a chance to go fishing.i hit up duke island state park with the family.i started right at the bottom of the falls.i lost something really nice but not sure what it was.i was using a 4" tru tungsten swim bait.

that was my first time there .very nice place.even just to relax.
what fish are at the bottom of the water fall at this time of year?also above the water fall what fish are there?i seen a very large snapping turtle above the water fall where you park at but no sign of fish.
i also went in to the main entrance of duke island just to check it out.is there any fish there this time of year?i fish for all species so it dont matter what kind as long as there are some.

thanks for the info everyone

The pool below the falls is one of the most productive spots on the river. You'll find smallies, catfish, carp, all manner of panfish, and even trout will hold there in summer. I've hooked into some really nice fish there. The rapids below are a bit shallow to hold much in the summer, but you may be able to get a few smallmouths. Below that where the river slows down and gets deeper is a much better spot. Good luck!

I like the area just below the shale flats, next to the big cliff, be careful, the shale flats are slippery. Glad you got out and wet a line.

is there carp above the waterfall?and is the fishing better by the falls or in the actual park where the water slows down?

are all those species of fish in the pool right at the falls?

are all those species of fish in the pool right at the falls?Absolutely. In fact, the state record carp was caught about a quarter mile above the dam.

Best way to land a carp...a pointed arrow attached to line and compound bow:cool:
