Fished the Squan res from 630am til 1130. with my brother DDDman. Was definitely slow fishing today. After tossing Spinner baits, tubes, lipless cranks, senkos, spoons, Shad Rap, and Fin-s's we Only managed 2 bass, 1 pick, and 2 over shad/shiner fish? Covered lots of water, shallow 1-8 and mid depth 9-18 ranges looking for that patern that never did develop for us. Next time gonna try chunkin and drop shot even deeper waters.
Need a fish ID. My brother says some type of shad (gizzard) I say very large shiner (golden) what say you?

I haven't seen a white perch in person, so I can't make it "X3", but I do know it's not a golden shiner. Here is a picture of a big golden shiner that I caught earlier this year.

Notice the single dorsal fin, larger scales and smaller head and mouth than the fish you caught.

Very good eating and fun to catch. I fish for them on the Maurice River in South Jersey when they come up the river with grass shrimp. Have absolutely destroyed them at times. They hit hard and put up a good fight on appropriate tackle. If they grew as big as their famous relative the striped bass, a lot less people would go striper fishing.
