while striper fishing this spring i have noticed something that i have to comment on.i fish the jersey jays spoons alot for bass and they are very efective when used corretly.i see lots of peeps trying to use these big spoons on ultra light gear,it won't work.sure you can fight and land big fish on lite gear but the spoon has to work right in order to catch fish.these lite rods don't have the back bone to give the spoon its action.if the rod gives to the spoon than all your doing is dragging it thru the water without the spoon doing its job.you have to use a rod that helps with the spoons action a heavier rod.now i'm not saying you need a pool que but a rod that dosen't bend at the cork when you are retrieving you spoon.i use a 6.6 med heav that i got from kevin bogan with a saltiga 40 with 30lb mono.i know this sounds like over kill but believe me its whats needed when using those spoons.i watch peeps trying to flip these spoons out, they are breaking rods, back lasing reels and damaging them.i know some peeps look at my gear when i get on the boat and say"oh boy, check this guy out" but at the end of the day when i have my limit plus is it just because i'm lucky[ha-ha} no it because i'm using the right gear.i hope this helps.
